We stayed 4 nights at the carmel Hotel. Because it was not fully booked we got a free upgrade from a room with an external bathroom to one with an interior bathroom which was nice! Positive: - good location, walking distance to most major attractions (30mins or less) and city centre - many good restaurants in neighbourhood - good shower, enough warm water Room for improvement: - bathroom was quite old and some things were clearly broken for some time already (shower doors -> water leaking onto bathroom floor) - power sockets in room 1 are hanging loose from the wall, showing all the wires etc. Possibly a dangerous situation, needs some maintenance obviously! - for 3 euros pp per day you can get breakfast, we would not recommend this. Very poor choice, dry bread, luke warm coffee, not worth 3 euros. Thank you for the stay!

The location is perfect, it's in Trastevere, which is absolutely the best area in Rome to stay at!! It's THE AREA of all the pubs, coffee bars, restaurants and it's the area where all the "Roman people" go, not the tourists. Now about the hotel, it's just the small perfect hotel. The staff is great, very polite, speaks few languages, very smiley and helpful, just what I like. The hotel and the room are clean, the breakfast is the usual Italian breakfast. I really like this hotel and I keep going and going there when I'm in Rome!!

Standads are low at this hotel. Total lack of cleanliness starting from hallways to rooms and especialy bath. Breakfast is poor as well. The good thing it is on pretty good location, Trastavere spots are really close.

On our fifth visit to Rome we stayed again at the Carmel for 11 days in Trastevere. We made sure that we reserved again Room #5, which is large and opens to the terrace. The bathroom was small but adequate, and this time there was plenty of hot water. The noise from the Goffredo Mameli St. appeared to have abated. There was a small refrigerator and a water heater with supplies to make instant coffee and tea that were replenished haphazardly (we travel with our own supplies). The TV set was quite good but most were dubbed into Italian and were not good anyway. Breakfast was still included and was convenient and adequate. The coffee was drinkable (espresso was available for additional payment) and the orange juice was reasonably good. The bread was somewhat improved and at times there were packaged rusks, not bad but crumbly. Available were butter, honey, jams, milk, cereal, and pretty good cake for the weekend. We like the location within walking distance of public transportation, of the Gianicolo, a hill near St. Peter's basilica and the Vatican with its magnificent museum, a department store with a supermarket Conad in the basement (which we preferred to the outdoor market), restaurants, small stores, and some of the other museums. There was a laundromat nearby at the via di Ripa and several pharmacies. We had lunch at the Chinese restaurant Ci Lin which we found deteriorated and the pastry shop Valzani which had reopened a few blocks away. The staff was all right for a small hotel.

This is a small hotel in Trastevere with very easy access to piazza S Cosimato and Piazza S Maria and only a short walk to the centre of Rome on the other side of the river. The area is cozy and a cool bar on the top of the street. The rooms are generally quite small, (we have stayed here before), but this time we had a large room meant for three persons (number one). The bathroom was nice with lots of hot water. All over very clean and nice. There is a kettle for hot water, minibar and a selection of wine to choose from in the room. The breakfast was okay, but we preferred to go to the bar for croissant and caffelatte, which do wherever we stay in Italia. The staff was very helpful and kind.
