We just spent a week in Rome and stayed at the San Carlo which turned out to be a very good decision. The location is great and you can walk to just about anywhere you want to go in Rome - Shopping - Vatican - "Old Rome", etc. and plenty of shops and restaurants in the surrounding 2-3 blocks. We... The San Carlo is on a quiet pedestrian street near the fashionable shopping, fine restaurants and tourist buzz of the Piazza Espana. And it fits right in with the posh storefronts in the neighborhood. I wish staying there had been easier. When we arrived in the late afternoon, the desk clerk reported that our room wasn't ready because of a... More

We stayed at the San Carlo for four nights, October 10 - 14, in room 49 on the 5th floor. It had the most wonderful, large terrace - I felt like I was living in Rome. This is a triple room (for which we paid the double price). We were given this room because we had requested a room with... More

Stayed in the San Carlo Hotel for 3 nights. Knew that there was no elevator, so e-mailed hotel with request for room on lower floor, which was offered, and accepted by us on arrival. Very good location, room was of a reasonable size, but no bath, just shower. Staff were helpful with our requests for information, and we could not... More

As others have written, I would give this hotel excellent if it weren't for the stairs. The hotel does not have an elevator but I was told they are going to put one in. I was given a large room that was recently remodelled. The accomodations for the price were great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel... More

This is a great hotel about 2 blocks away from the Spanish Steps with easy access to the Rome metro so that you can get pretty much anywhere in the city in minutes. The room was very spacious and clean, minimally decorated...not very inviting but functional. The continental breakfast was good and pretty much average in my experience with the... More

According to reviews on this sight we requested room 59 or a room in the annex-but specifically a room with a balcony. When we arrived we were told that they had given all balcony rooms away but that they would compinsate with giving us room 71. This room was IMPECCABLY SPOTLESS; White marble floors, pristine white walls, new wood furniture... More

We stayed at this hotel Sept. 23 - 26, 2005, and overall had a nice time. Here's a breakdown of our stay: LOCATION: The hotel is only a couple minutes walk from the Spanish Steps and close to the Borghese Gallery, on the north end of Rome. Trevi fountain is about a 10-15 minute walk away, Pantheon is a 20... More

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Hotel San Carlo in early September 2005 and would recommend it on the basis that you are only using the hotel as a base for sleeping and a shower after touring around all day. We stayed in the main part, not the "annexe" that some reviewers spoke of. Our main criteria... More

The only reason I'm not giving this hotel an "excellent" rating is due to the stairs. They really, really need to get a working lift in this hotel. It seems as though there is one there, but it is not operational. We were on the fourth floor of the main building. Our room was nice, spacious and clean. The stairs... More
