We had booked Opera Hotel by booking.com and the booking hadn't come through. We were taken to Hotel Sonya instead, just 100 meters from Opera Hotel. We got room 540. The room was okay, with good air condition, but somewhat mended in the corners. The breakfast was great, better than at a 4 star hotel in Napels we had stayed...

This hotel is not in a busy area of Rome, but it felt safe and comfortable. It is across the street from the opera house, and after a certain time you must use your key card to open the front door that leads to the lobby (which made me feel secure coming in late at night). The people at the...

Modern rooms, powerful air-conditioning (a respite during the July heat), a yummy free breakfast (don't miss the vegetable pie), friendly helpful staff. A bit out of the way which wouldn't be a problem in cooler weather, but in the Summer heat required frequent taxi rides (which the hotel staff will gladly arrange within minutes). I'll definitely return.

We were very pleased when we arrived to our room at Hotel Sonya (we were taken down the road to Sonya Suite which is newly renovated). Our room was small but really clean and beautifully renovated. We had booked a superior room so this is probably why we were in the nicer part of the hotel. The staff were lovely...

The Hotel Sonya is a gem in the city of Rome. The rooms are clean, and the air conditioning is strong. The continental breakfast is one of the best I've ever had. The building is charming, and the staff is very helpful. Free Internet access in the lobby is a big plus.

We are a family of three. My husband, my little girl and me. We booked at Hotel Sonya, but actually stayed at Sonya suites. We met Reza, who was very helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and spacious. The hotel is near the nice part of Termini Station, which was what we were looking for. I do recommend...

It may not look like much from the outside, but once inside you'll discover a hidden gem of a hotel! Our family of five, each with own backpack and rolling luggage, was able to easily walk to and from the Roma Termini train station. Upon arrival, they offered us cold water and stored our luggage until we checked in later....

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
