We stayed here for 3 nights in September and were very pleased with our stay. In an excellent location, 10 minute walk from the Termini and in the middle of all the major attractions in Rome. The room was quite basic but more than adequate. The bathroom was absolutely spotless and the Continental breakfast was nice and plentiful. Great value... More

The hotel is a 3 star and our least favourite. We had arrived very late and had emailed but still they gave away our room and we ended up in a dive called Opera Hotel which they called their sister hotel (ugly sister). Next day we got our room back at the Sonya. We had 5 nights booked it felt... More

This hotel is on a relatively quiet street across the Opera. very good multilingual service. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very comfortable beds. However, the shower cannot be regulated. It goes from very cold to scolding an a matter of minutes. Eventually, we derided not to play with the faucets, just wait for a few moments when the water temperature is OK.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and this turned out to be a good hotel with great location near the termini station. We took train from airport to Termini station and the hotel was about 7 mins walk. The breakfast was pretty good and the cappuccinos were great. The staff serving breakfast were so so nice they made our day... More

About 15 mins walk from Rome Train station and 20 mins from the Colesseum this is a great hotel and very reasonably priced at this time of year (Nov.) Lovely period building with marble staircase, quiet location yet central. Rooms are clean, spacious and homely. Every room seems to have an old masters type oil painting in it. Friendly helpful... We had an excellent experience at Hotel Sonya. The price is amazing for such a quality hotel. The location is in the heart of Rome, with access to Roma Termini, Metro, Trains, and busses, plus walking distance for many historic sites. We loved the quaint 150 year old building with an artistic, old, working elevator. We were greeted warmly by... More

Our first impression of this hotel was not great as we arrived in the evening with our children. The gentleman on reception was not very welcoming but did show us how to access our room as this is a shared building. The television didn't work and my husband asked at reception and was told no one was there to fix... More

We stayed twice during our visit in Italy . The room was compact but with triple bed, modern shower ; it was ok plus not far from Roma Termini ( 8 mins walking). The area around the hotel has many trattoria and ristorante to choose from. The staffs are nice , friendly and well-versed in English. The breakfast room was... More

An average hotel. The service staff in the morning breaksfast room was superb, attentive and helpful. The breakfast was good. The evening desk clerk was a bit arrogant and even dismissive when we paid our hotel bill. The issue was the city hotel tax. Our email confirmation read two Euro per night person. When we paid, he said it was... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
