My wife and I booked this hotel on Priceline. We had no problems with the reservations. We were in Italy for 2 weeks and stayed at 2 other hotels. This by far was the best. It is in a great location within walking distance to most major sites. The accomodations were wonderful. The room was quiet and well appointed. The...

We stayed in a superior room in the Mecenate Palace hotel from the 8th February until 12th February 2010. The hotel is exactly as the photographs show. The rooms are spotless with large bathrooms with shower / bath. Breakfasts are of a good standard with cold meats, cheeses, bread, pastries, fruit and cereals - something for everyone. We dined in...

Terrific location next to Santa Maria Maggiore and few minutes from Termini. Worried about being noisy but offered one of the new rooms in a courtyard which was excellent - quiet, modern, large, clean, tea/coffee jacuzzi bath etc. Roberto on the desk was very helpful in making restaurant bookings for us. Breakfast on the roof terrace was great but busy, resulting in a...

Our rooms (3) all looked out on the Basilica Maria Maggiore which really gave us a sense of place. We found the room size quite adequate (for Europe and an older...charming... building.) The bath was well-appointed, well-sized and well-laid out. (The plexi-shield on the shower is inefficient and would be better replaced with a shower curtain.) The top-floor dining room...

The late Ober sun cast lovely shadows on the Church and plaza. Great location and very helpful staff. Rooftop dining was two flights up stairs (no lift to top) and there was no view. Outside patio had the views. Room service during meals will be expanded, I was informed. Room was basic and clean. Views of the church through tall...

We had a deluxe room. We had a great view of S.M.Maggiore. It was raining most of our first day and we stayed in the room, watching all the people outside, as we recuperated from jet lag. I enjoy the double sinks in the bathroom, but don't understand the shower glass which only covers half of the area of the...

My Partner and I travelled to Rome for 4 nights, to do the touristy thing and see the sights. The hotel is a 10 min walk to the Coluseum, and most the other sights are walkable in under an hour. We were booked in at the Mecenate Palace Hotel in one of there deluxe double rooms and wow what a...

My friend booked this hotel through priceline and bid on it sight unseen. It was a bargain for a 4 star and was way beyond our expectations. Breakfast was included and was diverse and good. We were uprgaded to a suite, with ample sitting room with fridge and bar and tv, bedroom with two single beds and tv, and a...

My husband and I finished our two week honeymoon in Rome with three nights at the Mecante Palace. We were surprised by its location right from the start - we had thought it was more central, but it is def. further away from the main sites and attractions in Rome. It isn't too far, but we were not in the...

We recently stayed a the Mecenate Palace hotel for three nights. Overall, we were disappointed in the property. The lobby is very opulent. Upon entry of the hotel you think, "WOW this is a very upscale hotel." Once you get to your room the story is very different. The rooms are very small (which we expectetd, it's Eurpoe!), but the...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
