Total rip-off in my view and of my 2 colleagues). The Hotel uses COVID-19 as an excuse for almost everything. Just one example is the breakfast: they charge you 17.00 Euros for one croissant and a coffee. Per person. The comment: we can't serve a better breakfast due to COVID-19.Discount for that? Management fobits it. The location is okay, but quite noisy even when having a room facing to the back. The reason: dozens of seagulls as soon as the sun gets up.

Response from Customer Care, Proprietario at FH Grand Hotel Palatino
Responded 12 Mar 2020
Dear Kim, we would like to inform you that your reservation is for the 18th of April and as explained to hotels.com, on the 3rd of March, we couldn’t accept the free cancellation of your not refundable reservation, since on the 3rd of March Rome was still safe therefore we had no reason to refund your reservation. Please be also informed that we applied the procedure agreed with the Italian hotels trade association “Federalberghi” in terms of cancellation during the coronavirus emergency. Of course in this extraordinary situation that all the world is facing, we are flexible and we see each request day by day. Moreover, as written to hotels.com we communicated to contact us again to see your request and the development of this situation that is changing daily, we invited to contact us again later and you decided to write your negative comment on our channels instead of contact us again as kindly asked to hotels.com. Please be informed that at the moment travels to Italy are suspended, except in case of serious reasons, until the 3rd of April. We did our best to provide an efficient customer service but you decided to write your bad comments in all our channels. Because of your behavior sorry but we’re not going to refund your reservation unless the Italian government will sign a new decree with an extension of the restriction. If you need further assistance you are invited to contact us privately since our booking office is working daily to assist all the guests who are facing issues as yours. Best regards, Paola M. Brand & Communication Manager

We stay at this hotel in mid-February. The front desk staff were very helpful, suggesting places to dine, ordering taxi service, etc. When we check in our room wasn't quite ready, but they found another room for us which was perfect. The hotel is located in what I would say is a touristy area with lots of tourist shopping - a bit overwhelming. However, if you walk out of the hotel, turn right and then head down the allies, you will find wonderful restaurants and bars. We had wonderful meals and drank great wine.

A conveniently located hotel for the Colisseum and generally getting around the City. We noticed the rate for our room had been considerably reduced, so asked for an upgrade. After some debate between the Hotel Manager and staff member, this was granted. The room had a good view, and a small terrace. Beds were OK, bathroom was in places needing some DIY and a bar of used soap had been left by the previous occupant and not spotted by the cleaner. Staff were not that friendly. Plenty of other hotels to choose from.

We were a group of 22 from a prestigious Senior University in Madrid on a 'Roma Barroca' tour with an excellent history of art teacher. The hotel is right next to the Colisseum and the Forum and within walking distance of many of the places we visited. The rooms are comfortable; the staff and service friendly and there´s a good buffet breakfast. We are planning two more small group visits to Rome and will be back at the Gran Hotel Palatino.
