The receptionists are very friendly and serviceminded, but the hotel is old and needs badly a renovation. Staff in breakfast room should learn a bit about service. It seems that the hotel is run out on date, just because some Cardinals are living there now and then, the hotel needs to update Next time I visit Rome I will for...

The hotel is placed in a great location - I could not imagine a better one... They offer parking spaces and the breakfast served was nice (but nothing special). The hotel is very old/stylish so if you expect modern amenities/interior, you will be disappointed. The room we got was big enough and was overlooking the parking spaces (it was quiet)....

Very very, very central. Good price. The air condition in the room was not working but the climate in the room was still ok. Staff very helpful. Breakfast ordinary but sufficiant. The room was old but clean.

LOCATION - depending on your purpose, this hotel is one of the best hotels you can get near St. Peter's basilica (about 300 meters to the left) and access outside the city (about 500 meters to the right). Since our intent was to attend the Christmas Eve mass, the location of the hotel was perfect for us. There were a...

This is a wonderful, historical and ideally located Hotel. It is a very short distance (no more than 800 meters) from St Peter's Basilica, it is in easy walking distance to all Vatican highlights and some of the other big name tourist spots in Central Rome. The staff were always great and friendly, speaking flawless English and the breakfast was...

This place was a great choice for our first time to Rome. It is within steps of the Vatican, our room even had a balcony with open window and we saw the pope addressing crowds one morning. it is within steps of many other attractions including the Vatican gardens, museums, and bus stops for touring the rest of the city...

Location is great, and the building itself is beautiful. The room however was very scruffy, with stains on the sofa and walls. One small window, but so high up you can't look outside. Our room was next to a utilities room; the dryers made an awful racket. Definitely not a 4* hotel.

One reviewer called the Hotel Columbus Austere. This place was austere even by dorm room standards. The bed took up most of the room and there was a hallway to a decent bathroom and shower. There was a small closet with a faded finish on the doors and trim and a dresser much the same. We were there in July...

This hotel in Rome is ideal for tourists wanting to visit Vatican City as it is minutes away. In fact our front facing room gave us a fabulous view of St Peter's Square. The hotel was a former monastery and the building itself has lovely decorations in the main areas. The bedroom we had was another story! It was austere,...

Stay here was very mixed, as previous reviewers have noted. It is definitely not a four-star hotel and is in desperate need of thorough renovation. Positives: front desk staff, location, and fact that it is old palace. Room was quiet, even though it faced street. I was never bothered by noise. Clean. Negatives: rooms are as sparse as convent I...

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
