The Marcella Royal Hotel garners acclaim for its spotless rooms and relaxing atmosphere, accentuated by live entertainment on the terrace. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness, some guests note their compact size and the absence of certain amenities like tea and coffee facilities. The rooftop is a highlight, offering stunning views and a serene ambiance that guests revel in, particularly during breakfast. Despite mixed views on value, the hotel's prime location near Rome's attractions and the staff's attentive service have won over many travelers. However, noise levels can be a hit or miss, depending on the room's location.

We stayed in the Marcella Royal for 4 nights at the end of February. The staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. Our room was warm, clean, comfortable and bright [although we were not overly enamoured with the flickering coloured lights and switched them off].
The location was very good for us, about 10 minutes walk from the airport bus stop at Termini, lots of good restaurants nearby and we walked to all the major attractions[ although some might be a bit far for those not used to walking].
The rooftop breakfast room and bar were amazing and as the weather was exceptional for the time of year we were able to enjoy an evening drink up there warmed by the gas heater.
The breakfast choice was good, coffee excellent and I lived the pancake making machine.
We were disappointed that there were no refreshments in the room, tea/coffee/water and the plastic tumblers in the bathroom and mini bar were horrible. Also we felt they were a bit mean with the toiletries,[one small body wash, one shampoo and no body lotion] and on one day these were not even replemished.
Overall I would give 4.5 if I could and we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

First things first the pictures on the website don’t do the hotel any justice. The hotel to us looked amazing, we went for what we thought was an average hotel, good for sleeping and washing as with a trip to Rome we knew we wouldn’t be in the room that much.. it was a total bonus that it was way better than expected. Impressive service by Allesandro on the front desk he helped us out with transfer complications, places to go, maps etc and a very funny friendly man. Also the assistant Porter I think it’s called? He was very kind and pleasant in helping us also. We opted to not be disturbed whilst we were there and cleaned up ourselves but generally the whole hotel was very clean and tidy, and all remotes/controls were in fresh sanitised sealed bags, breakfast was nice and plenty to choose from if you are picky like us two. Every aspect of our room was just ideal, lights in the wardrobe, impressive lighting behind the bed, plenty storage, spacious, a place for your suitcase, big shower, plenty mirrors etc etc. The rooftop terrace is the most unique part of this hotel, we loved sitting up there morning and sometimes late at night with entertainment. Drinks were a little expensive there but hey ho can’t have it all. Location isn’t front and centre but to us we didn’t mind because it give us a chance to have a stroll to the things we wanted to see and get to see more attractions and also general authentic parts of Rome. 😁

recently returned from a fab trip to rome. overall view of the hotel was brilliant. when wee arrived it is fair to say that the rooms were a little more dated than in photos online as wee had booked a superior room however the room was spotlessly clean comfortable bed and well equipped with safe mini bar etc. the staff in the hotel are wonderful. the check in was quick with an older gent who provided great tips maps and was very welcoming. the rooftop bar was manned by 2 guys who were great and the rooftop bar at night and day had a bit of a buzz for a nightcap. breakfast was plentiful with fresh pancakes juices bacon eggs and lots other. hotel is approx 20mins walk from main sites however this ment that close resturants were more local and better priced. very close to bus station for transfers to airport and approx 10mins walk to the hop on/off buses. I would recommend this hotel and would return if back in rome. thank you marcella grand

My partner and I stayed here on 9th Feb 2020 for 5 days for his 30th Birthday. Hotel is in a very good location about 15/20 min walk to Spanish Steps & Trevi Fountain and other places of interest but Rome is so spread out be prepared for LOTS of walking.

We booked a double superior room which was FAB I loved it, had our own balcony and room was recently renovated mood lighting in room, lovely buffet type breakfast every morning on the 7th floor, delicious and would set you up for the day!.

Cannot commend the staff in the Marcella Royal enough they are amazing, so friendly, helpful, informative, nothing is too much. Bar man on the rooftop bar was such a lovely man also, gorgeous to sit up here for a couple of drinks, worth the expensive prices.

All in all I would and will be reccomending this hotel to others and my clients as I work in a Travel Agency. Thank you for our lovely stay :) xxx

Just back from a couple of nights in Rome and our feet are aching (in a good way). We booked the Marcella Royal having read a number of positive reviews and finding it available through Secret Escapes. There were no 'superior' rooms avaiable but we decided to book the slightly more expensive 'Prestige' room on a bed & breakfast basis. It also indicated a welcome drink upon arrival.

On arriving at the hotel we were greeted warmly by the lady on reception and her colleague Alessandro who indicated that our room was ready despite it being a little earlier than check in time. There was no drink offered but we did not say anything. We have to say that the only dissappointing feature of the stay was the room we were allocated. It was Room 630 which felt quite small had a shower actually by the bed and a small seperate room with the toilet, sink & bidet .... a really strange set up. We thought that perhaps we had been issued with the wrong room but when my wife called down to reception we were informed that it was a Prestige room which surprised us and no other room was offered. The shower leaked slightly ont the carpet when used and one of the side tables next to the bed has a broken glass top (although it was useable). Each early morning & evening you could also hear the scrapping of tables being moved on the lovely terrace above. There are no tea & coffee facilities in the room but a tray with a kettle, water & teas was provided when we requested (no milk but we bought some at a local supermarket). There is no iron either.

Despite the above we can say that all staff we encountered were friendly and the hotel ws spotlessly clean. A plentiful breakfast was served on the terrrace area which was well maintained with plants with a choice of covered or uncovered seating. There was also a very useful computer & printer facility that allowed people to print out tickets etc.

Apart from breakfast we did not eat at the hotel but there are several nice restaurants near the hotel and prices generally seemed very similar for them with a meal for 2 costing just over the 50 euros mark.

Not that centrally located but fine if you don't mind a bit of a walk and we were able to get to most places we wanted to.

Dear Sunny_the_red, Thank you very much for your review and for taking the time to share your experience at Marcella Royal Hotel. We are very sorry to know that you were disappointed with your room. Room 630 is a Prestige room, with a particular design and the dimension is about 25 sq m. Our rooms don’t have the iron to reduce the possibility of accidents in the hotel. However, we offer an express laundry service. I'm happy to know that you had appreciated our cleanliness and the Staff. I would like to restore your faith about Marcella Royal Hotel. We look forward to welcoming you back. Best regards, Alessandro D’Ilario Hotel Manager

This is a classic hotel of quality with a wonderful personal touch. Every member of staff is friendly and helpful. At the front desk they will book a taxi, which arrives within 5 minutes, provide a map and give advice on the location of the main areas, and make recommendations about local restaurants and book those for you too. We particularly enjoyed the rooftop bar morning, afternoon and evening. Breakfast is very good and we had a lovely evening meal one night. It’s a great place to relax after a day sightseeing and to come back to for a cocktail after dinner. Salvatore needs a special mention for mixing Singapore Slings for my husband every night. He and all the bar staff are fun and friendly. We had a spacious superior room with 2 small balconies overlooking the street. It was immaculately clean and well appointed. Towels were large and fluffy and toiletries replenished everyday. The hotel itself is beautiful with antiques and plush furnishings. Most sights are within walking distance; you have to be prepared to walk a lot in Rome! There are plenty of great restaurants close by. We had a fabulous stay here and would definitely like to return next year.

I stayed at the Marcella with my wife and adult son for our first family holiday in several years. We found the hotel very, very good: the staff were friendly and helpful, especially as we were finding our feet in Rome (we hadn't visited the city before).

The rooftop/ terrace restaurant offers amazing views over the city, providing a relaxing, informal place for breakfast, lunch and supper (we were staying B&B so latter two meals not included, but we ended up eating there a LOT anyway) with a variety of food, all simple and well done.

The rooms and public areas are kept to a very high standard, bedrooms and lobby had very good air com (there was a heat wave on).

The Marcella is located very conveniently for the main tourist sites, shopping and surrounded by other great restaurants as well, many with street dining.

All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and would be happy to return.

This was the 1st time we had stayed at the Marcella Royal Rooftop Garden, and our third visit to Rome. I can honestly say this is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. We were greeted at reception when we checked in, by a lovely, courteous gentleman, who gave us lots of information and made us feel very welcome. (For our whole stay he patiently let me practise my beginner Italian phrases each time I came down to reception which was very kind and gave me little tips on pronunciation!) The reception is very clean and comfortable, with sofas and tables where you can relax in the cool air. We had a room on the third floor, and the air- con worked amazingly at keeping our room cool, especially on the days where it was 36 degrees outside! I must say, I got the best sleep of my life in the hugely comfortable bed! The location of our room was perfect, we couldn't hear a thing once we were in it, no noise from the outside, and no noise from the corridors. Every day we went up to the top floor to the rooftop terrace for breakfast, which has the most amazing views over Rome. The breakfast choice was excellent- fresh fruit juices, yoghurts, coffees and teas, fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, scrambled eggs, the most beautiful bacon, pancake machine (which my other half loved! ) We had dinner on two evenings on the terrace. We both thought the meals were excellent both nights. The chef made the most beautiful scampi with panko breadcrumbs for our starters, followed by ravioli filled with scampi. We had this on both occasion as we thought the food was absolutely delicious and very well cooked and seasoned. Our room was tidied and cleaned every day to a very high standard, the staff who do this do an exceptional job. We must mention that what made our stay memorable, was the staff. Each and every one of them was friendly, courteous, efficient, and a credit to themselves. We stayed in the Marcella for 7 nights, and cannot fault anything. We will definitely be back in Rome for our 4th visit and will be coming back to this lovely hotel.

This hotel is in a fantastic location, we walked to all the top sights and city centre is easy to get to in 15 mins. The rooftop terrace is great for breakfast with a view and sipping cocktails in the evening although drinks expensive - 8 euro for a medium beer and 14 euro for spirit/mixer or cocktails.
We were given a room on the 6th floor directly under the roof garden but it was extremely noisy and late at night and early morning was woke up by furniture scraping along the floor and other noise. The wonderful reception staff quickly moved us so no problem.
There are lots of lovely restaurants along the same road as the hotel so no need to venture out too far after a long days walking !!
Would defo recommend this hotel to anyone, every staff member was so friendly and helpful

Dear NicolebL9, The hotel is not located on a massive hill. The road has a slight incline, but it's not very steep. Rome itself is built on seven hills, so some elevation changes are normal. The location is walkable, and the area is well-connected by public transport. Kind Regards, Alessandro D'Ilario General Manager
