#65 of 228 hotels in Naples
Four stars for the Hotel Royal Continental, a hotel on the seafront promenade of Naples with a fascinating past, rebuilt in 1955 by Ferdinando Chiaromonte where once stood the Grand Hotel Royal des Etrangers . Today it is known as a structure of great prestige framed by the extraordinary beauty of the Bay of Naples. Large common areas , multiple meeting spaces , picturesque corners of relaxation, the Royal Continental sparkles elegantly with vintage charm thanks to the interiors designed by Gio Ponti , one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. The furniture too was designed by him combined with designs by young architects of his choice . All 397 rooms, of which most have large windows and a balcony facing the breathtaking view of the Gulf, are spacious and very bright. On the Floor Museum Gio Ponti you can stay in one of the 24 rooms with wooden furnishings and fixtures designed specifically for the Hotel by Ponti. Suspended furniture, three-drawer chests with feet, and magazine racks and lamps in satin brass integrated into headboards from briar have made the history of Italian design. In stunning New York style, the Roof on the tenth floor, from which the beautiful view of the ancient Borgo Marinari and the legendary Castel dell'Ovo can be enjoyed, presents the one of a kind sea-water pool designed by Gio Ponti, published in 1954 on the cover of Domus. Guests are offered the solarium, outdoor bar, Fitness Center, massages booked in advance and two exclusive restaurants with spectacular panoramic views that stretch from the Vesuvius to the hill of Posillipo and the island of Capri. Breakfast served by the sea, in addition to the buffet which offers freshly baked pastries by Hotel Royal Continental, including oven fresh Neapolitan sfogliatelle, pastry horns. Location of reference for events and meetings, the Royal Continental is a well known Conference Center of primary importance in the national scene. Equipped with the most modern equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi, the Conference Center is characterized by its many meeting rooms with natural light and sea views. An exceptional location for large or small events thanks to its Auditorium setaing 530, its 16 Meeting rooms, 13 business suites and exhibition space, more than 200 sqm large. Pets up to 10 kg are allowed with an extra cost of 20 euros per stay. Located in one of the liveliest and most dynamic areas of Naples, the Royal Continental is the ideal location for living and exploring the city, within walking distance from shopping streets and the main local attractions, 10 minutes walk from Piazza Plebiscito and the Royal Palace. Furthermore, it is a 7 minutes drive to the harbour for ferry connections, 10 minutes to the Central Station and 20 to the International Airport. Not just a hotel but the real meeting point in the city, with its numerous events, food and wine tasting events, exhibitions, parties and aperitifs.

Stayed at this hotel for 14 nights , sept 25-October 9. Booked a superior ocean front balcony view room for 3people . , room was clean beautiful view but smaller in size that anticipated , the 3rd bed was a pullout sofa chair, beds where hard ,pillows awful , after one week of sleeping on a bed that was more like a cot we complained to the house keeping staff and At that time they put a topper on our mattress to make bed more comfortable. They should have done that from the beginning. Now let’s take about dinning , breakfast was fair not good , same thing every day under cooked runny scrambled eggs and bacon. Cereals and pastries . We ate dinner twice in hotel first time they took my sister steak dinner off the check because it was cooked poorly with no taste we ate there again because of bad weather the food was the same not good ,!, I was so surprised menu does not change same options daily , don’t eat here!, better restaurant in area and cheaper . The staff very friendly and helpful. This is not a 4 star hotel more like 3 star . So that sums it up.

We didn’t stay at the hotel but spontaneously decided to have lunch in the tenth floor restaurant sitting outside with a view of Capri and the sea. Super meal, great service and ambience. A lovely relaxed lunch with friendly staff. Would certainly return and recommend this restaurant.

An extraordinarily located hotel with a fabulous, indescribable top floor terrace. The hotel garage is a significant advantage for those traveling by car (especially in Naples). Very close to most sights and the center of Naples, they can be reached on foot. I recommend this hotel for tourists and for those with business or interests in the old center

The hotel is beautifully situated close to the harbour and fortress, and if you have a room with a balcony the view are marvellous. A perfect jump of point to explore the old town of Naples and to catch the ferries to Ischia and Capri. The rooftop pool, that the hotel is famous for, is small but beautifully crafted (though sadly the pool bar is somewhat lacklustre) but you’ll be hard pressed to get a chair there if you don’t book early and you have to pay even though you are a guest in the hotel. The rooms are somewhat run down, and the amenities are starting to show some wear and are decidedly dated. The old decrepit fridges in the rooms with 2 bottles of complementary water are …not what you expect at a 4* hotel. The bed and linens are ok. The balcony of my room was large and had great views and if you have a chance to book a room with a balcony with sea view, do it. Breakfast service is ok but not something you’re awed by barely 4*, again the fantastic views from the balcony the breakfast are served on is a huge plus. Check in and check out was a hassle. The junior suite I had pre booked was suddenly not available on check in and the hotel hadn’t deemed it necessary to inform me about it before my arrival. I was instead smugly offered a DOWNGRADE that would cost me less (yeah surprisingly a normal room costs less than a junior suit….) I was taken aback by the news and annoyed. No other junior suites was available and no offers of upgrades given. I told the hotel receptionist that this hardly constituted good service and after some embarrassing haggling in front lf other people I was offered free access to the pool (one would have taught that was included) a normal room with a seaveiw (the reason I got a junior suite in the first place) a complementary drink at the pool bar (that I was charged with on departure anyway) and a cheap bottle of Prosecco (that wasn’t in my room when it was available 2h later and that I had to call to room service to get 1 hour after that again, and unsurprisingly this was also charged to my bill on departure leading to more public haggling )The sad thing is that I had to get angry before the hotel offered anything to amend the situation they had created.

As central as you could find in Naples with pretty much everything on your doorstep or just a taxi away. The elegant facade carries through into the hotel with a latter year ambiance very much still evident. All staff both front of house and restaurant made you feel welcome and were utterly professional. Stunning views from the 10th floor terrace / restaurant with the island of Capri very much stealing the headline. One flaw was the erratic internet connection which when on business is a fundamental necessity. That said, this didn't overly detract from an enjoyable stay.
