The Hotel Il Faro was born in a strategic position, in a romantic setting, the only hotel located in the Port of Sorrento, a few steps from the sea and the embarkations for the neighboring islands (Capri, Ischia, Procida), in a position strategic just 500 meters from the square dedicated to the Tasso "Piazza Tasso". The structure is very characteristic in a marine style; the sea view rooms all renovated, enjoy a spectacular view, equal to a beautiful postcard

This hotel is small and friendly situated right at the Port to catch ferries to Capri.
The staff are welcoming and check in was easy.
Our room was small but comfortable and had views towards Taso Square.
Buses to the Square and also to the train station varied from 1.7 euros to 2 euros. Taxis were expensive and charged between 15 and 20 Euros.
The maid changed our towels and made the beds and cleaned every day.
The rooftop bar has lovely views over towards Naples and Vesuvius. A single shot of Rum Gin etc was expensive though at 15 Euros a shot therefore a double Gin and Tonic was 30 Euros. Other than that the hotel was good value and very clean.

Breakfast was scrambled egg bacon hot dog sausages fresh tomatoes etc. Boiled eggs cakes cheese hams and waiter service for tea and coffee. Really good service. The rooms at the front of the hotel are larger and cost more but for the amount of time we spent in our rooms it didn't matter to us.

The bathroom was small and the shower cubicle tiny but the water ran good and was hot. A bidet, WC and sink were also in the bathroom. Plenty of hangers in the wardrobe.

The location is both the good and the bad. Getting there from the Rome Airport is quite the journey. For us, it was a series of three trains and a bus we’d thought never would come after a nine hour flight. Dragging luggage for a day and a half, we were anxious to get our room. Being so close to the water was beautiful and the sunsets were gorgeous. Close access to the ferries allowed us time for breakfast before leaving for day trips, weather permitting. Our trip to Amalfi/Positano ended up being a bus trip at the last minute but the views driving on the cliffs were breathtaking. Our room was huge and bright and immaculate. The bathroom was clean and the shower was perfect. We had room 316 and we had a massive balcony that overlooked the Sea. We watched the town awake each morning and the sunrise at night. The receptionist was hardly a concierge but provided our key each time we walked in and checked us in and out. They were not accommodating when we asked for two simple wine glasses which was surprising. Getting to town was a short walk to an elevator near the beach or a 15 min walk uphill.

The location of the hotel is good, just opposite the port. Convenient to meet the guides for the tour to Capri, amalfi coast etc.

Breakfast was average, was expecting a better range in the buffet breakfast.

The lobby staff were fantastic, very helpful, accommodating and offering their advice where ever possible.

We were allocated a room, which was big and comfortable but it was close to the roof top bar, which made it a bit too noisy for us as we were leaving early in the morning to catch our tours.

We requested for the room to be changed, which they did even though they were full, still managed to change the room for us.

Now we had a room that was much quieter but it turned out to be smaller than our previous room which had a small varanda, we used thst for our luggage. I guess we shouldn't complain as the staff accommodated us and still changed the room for which we grateful.

The walk from the hotel to tasso square is steep and have many steps to go up only good for the fit young people. We attempted it on one occasion, needless to say we stopped a few times on the way to the top. We came back the same route with a slight diversion where we didn't have to climb down as many steps as we had to climb up.

Half way down to the hotel, we stopped at a flat level and the view from there of the port was amazing. The port and the vessels all lit up. It compensated the climb down.

For the less fit people, there was an alternative, walk down a small alley for about 6 minutes and there was a lift up to the square, it cost euro 2 for a return journey. Considering the steep steps up, well worth the 2 euros for the lift.

Over all an enjoyable stay. If not for anything else the staff.

Thank you all.

Do NOT stay here, worst possible service you can imagine. A previous guest had been smoking in our room and hence we wanted to change rooms. After a lot of discussion we finally got another room but got an unpleasant surprise when we checked out - they had charged us €90 to change to another room that didn’t smell like smoke….

Overall, the service at Hotel il Faro is terrible, and they try to charge you for everything. The sunbeds next to the tiny pool on the roof cost €15 euros a day for hotel guests(!) and they tried to charge us for very poor breakfast (literally some cookies, a small yoghurt and a coffee machine) every day although it was included in the price.

In summary, do yourself a favour and do not stay here.

This hotel is located right at the marina, a perfect location for boat trips to Amalfi, Positano, etc. close to town and shopping as well. I stayed in a lovely, huge room overlooking the water. Staff was professional, attentive and friendly. Very nice daily breakfast. Highly recommend.

This hotel is located in the small harbour area of Sorrento commanding excellent views of the bay of Naples. It has a rooftop bar and small roof pool and is the perfect location for ferries to Naples, Capri and the Amalfi coast. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with cleaning on a daily basis.

The room on the third floor had its own veranda with superb views, was air conditioned and had a nice size fridge and satellite TV. Staff were all very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, they really made our 2 week stay enjoyable and fun.

Breakfast was unlimited continental as expected and there is a 1st adjoining restaurant that offers 10% discount for hotel residents on all meals and drinks. This can be a noisy location due to the harbour but it did not impact on our stay at all, the walk up the stairs to the town can be challenging, but there is a lift available on the sea front for all to use for a small fee of 2 euros return if you prefer, we are both in our late 50’s and never used it once. Thank you all to the team for a great 2 week stay.

Have been traveling in Europe for three months and this is the most unpleasant hotel visit I have had. The front desk attendants asked us 10 times every time we would enter and exit the hotel what our room numbers were and cause a commotion. They did not restock soap and shampoo in the room once over our three night stay. The elevator took forever and resulted in me lugging a 20 kg suitcase down five flights of stairs. To top it off, on our way out, they charged us extra because apparently the room was only for one person when the desk attendant when we were checking in knew very well that we were staying with two people to a room. The scenery and location are obviously fantastic, but a poorly run establishment.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in Sorrento and in the Amalfi cost. False advertising. TV which is the size of a postage stamp never worked despite reporting several times. Aircon didn’t work, wifi didn’t work. The breakfast was ghastly, stone cold food, old bread rolls from the previous days and useless breakfast staff that didn’t react when asking for items to be served hot. On arrival I offered to pay straight away but they declined. I was in this hotel as I was there to join family members who were staying there. They left by car after 2 nights and I was helping them to load their car with their luggage as they were going to a different destination. I was checking out later but to my shock and horror, an elderly lady was barking orders to a nervous receptionist whose uniform seemed terribly of body odour. I was told I would only get my keys if I paid on the spot, which I did but was horrified. Worst still he refused to provide a receipt. I told him that after having paid over £500 for 2 nights for a single room that accordingly to Italian law they need to give me a receipt. They insisted that it is Opodo and Expedia that should provide a receipt. This is utter nonsense as the payment was done directly to the hotel. Despite sending several emails, they were not replied to. Selling a location is not all about hospitality. It is a terrible prospect for clients paying premium money for shabby accomodation, careless staff and the owner who spends the whole day near the reception barking the orders to staff, similar to Fawlty Towers. I have waited several months for a reply and as they have not bothered I will notify Opodo, Expedia for false advertising and complain to the relevant authorities for refusing to provide a receipt. This is the sort of hotel, you want to forget and never return. The next hotel I stayed in Anacapri after I left, in contrast, was amazing, so definetely never staying at Il Faro Hotel ever again.

The positives: convenient location right next to the ferry port, great if you are travelling to Capri or elsewhere by ferry. The restaurant next door is pretty good!
The not so good: the staff are disinterested at best, curt at worst. There was little communication at check in, no explanation of the facilities, restaurant, or the pool upstairs.
There is always an elderly lady sat near reception (maybe the owner), being generally unfriendly and glaring at everyone. Disconcerting.
We asked for 2 rooms close together as we were travelling with teens, and were given rooms on different floors. No explanation, despite requesting well in advance.
Late check out was blankly refused, whereas most hotels would allow an hour or two, or at least apologise for not being able to accommodate.
Breakfast was an ok spread, but none of the waiters make eye contact on arrival or attempt to seat you, and there was only one other occupied table, with 3 waiters. On the 2nd morning, we were offered coffee by the one helpful waiter there.
The room was ok but very hot, even overnight, as they control the AC centrally. I had to leave the balcony doors open as it was cooler outside! The AC is turned off at 9 am promptly , so if you are still in the room, prepare to be very hot! I was told by reception that this was Italian law…..
The price is pretty high for what you get, and there must be many better places in Sorrento.

We got to sorrento by boat, from Nápoles. When we arrived we were happily surprised to see how close the hotel was to port, making it close to the beaches. We arrived around 12pm, and the receptionist told us that the check in was at 3pm. They offered to keep our bags with them while we went to beach. After a lovely time at the beach we came back at 15:30 hoping our room would be ready. The staff said it wasn’t ready and we had to wait 10 minutes more. We were upset about the delay for our check in and the staff lied saying they gave us a room upgrade, which wasn’t true because the bags were already tagged with the room number. We got to our room which was big, clean and spaceous.
We were very excited about the hotel from its pictures. We were happy about the pool, but once we got there the sunbed cost 15 euros each, the same price as a sunbed at the beach, or even more expensive. 15 euros in a hotel that you are already paying?????!!!! So unfriendly to your guests, it’s outrageous! No wonder no one was lying in their sun beds…
The hotel has a restaurant downstairs that was excellent, definitely recommend!
Staff could be A LOT NICER. They would always speak as if they were looking down on us, as if we weren’t paying customers.
Overall ok expierence for the price.

Yes - we used the pool at the Carlton Hotel up near Palazzo Tasso which isn’t too far from Il Faro - it cost €15 each for the day. It has a big pool, you can use their towels and it has a snack bar serving burgers for around €5.
