We stayed at Hotel Capri for 6 days...it was our first visit to Sorrento.

Pros:

Central location, on the Corso Italia about 5 mins easy walk to Piazza Tasso, the station or the cliffs.

Good, plentiful breakfast - plenty of choice

Courteous staff

Good pool (not heated so a little cool in May still :) ) - yes it isn't huge but this is a central located hotel so you have to compromise in my opinion. There is plenty of shade and sun and places to sit around the pool on in the little orange garden

Cons:

Can be noisy in the rooms due to the tiled floors and thin walls. Other guests are not always aware of how much noise can travel eg slamming doors, snoring, dropping things on the floor, wheeling bags rather than carrying them etc. Take ear plugs with you

Rooms are a little on the small size but again probably to be expected and everything is there that is needed.

You get a ticket on checking in that you then swap for a pool towel and you keep that towel for the duration of your stay. When you check out you must give back your pool towel or you'll be charged. My issue with this was mainly that because you were keeping the towel there was no where to dry it (as you were expressly forbidden to dry anything on the balcony) so it was still damp the following day

Balconys are not huge...big enough for small table and 2 chairs but not private

Hotel Capri is a fairly average hotel.

Pool area – Average and very small – didn’t use at all.

Breakfast – Choices are disappointing and awful coffee.

Location – Very close to the town centre – good location for a short break (of 2-3 days but nothing more!) The rooms at the front of the hotel are extremely noisy due to the hotel being located on the main road out of Sorrento. The break didn’t feel very relaxing which is why I suggest if you are staying more than 2-3 days to book elsewhere as the hotel offers no decent views (unless you class a fuel station as a decent view).

Rooms – Décor quite dated but the room itself was clean. As mentioned above, the front rooms are very noisy. The back rooms are a lot quieter but smaller and not much space to hang clothes and store luggage!

Hotel itself – The Reception area is very well presented and always somebody available on Reception. The majority of the staff are friendly and helpful.

All in all, I do think this hotel requires a number of improvements – breakfast being one of them.

As we stayed for a fair amount of time we do wish we had booked somewhere with a better view and somewhere a bit further out with a decent pool area.

Unfortunately we are used to a better standard so I wish we had researched this hotel a lot more and I do feel for the price, the standard should have been better.

The Capri Hotel in Sorrento is ideally placed, just outside the town centre within 3-5minutes walking distance, so the hotel is quiet if you want a relaxing time but close enough for easy access to the heart of town. The hotel is very well presented, and Thereza on reception makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk into the hotel, very friendly and helpful always willing to have a chat. All the staff are very friendly and always look immaculate, nothing is to much trouble. The hotel is very clean and well maintained with reasonable sized rooms and great maid service. The pool area is not very large, but this reflects the size and number of rooms. We were always able to get sunbeds, and often there were only a handful of people around the pool. Pool towels were provided by the hotel at no charge. Drinks were available from the pool bar during the day, and prices were comparable to the local bars. Breakfast was a self service buffet with a good selection, with a Chef on hand to cook fresh Omelettes, eggs and pancakes to your own request.
Our room was at the back of the hotel without a balcony which was the only down side, next time we will make sure we book a balcony room.
We will definitely book this hotel on our next trip to Sorrento and recommend it to our friends and family.

Booked 3 nights in this dreadful hotel in April. Don’t be fooled by the nice interior photos like we were there are a lot of things you cant see including non-working AC facilities, street noise, and horrible staff service.
To begin with, the facilities are inadequate; the air conditioning in the rooms does not work, and the hotel shuts down and turns off the central system. You have no control over the temperature in the rooms! Our room was quite hot for some reason, and the receptionist informed us that the air conditioning was off and would not be turned on until May. On complaining about the lack of conditioning they sent a noisy fan to the room that ended up simply moving the hot air. Also, keep in mind that the hotel is not only next to a busy gas station, but also on the main road, so if you choose to open the windows, the main street will make the room quite noisy, and you should not expect to have a restful sleep at all
Next, The pool in those photos is not accessible from the lobby, despite the fact that there are doors. Instead, the hotel requires you to walk to the rear and up to the first floor, then back down the stairs and out to the pool, which is absurd. Also, bizarrely the toilets at the lobby do not have latches or locks; you have to hold the door shut so that someone doesn’t walk in. On enquiry, The curly-haired receptionist simply shrugs and says ‘we don’t have keys/locks for the bathroom’. Perhaps they are going for a prison feel at Hotel Capri??
Then there's the service. One receptionist, with long straight hair, was pleasant, while the other, with curly hair and blonde highlights, was nasty and unhelpful, and appeared to be there solely for the money. At night, it's the same with the overweight guy. Be prepared for the type of phoney politeness that screams 'sod off.' One day, We had an American friend visit us in the hotel lobby, and as we approached the restaurant, the curly-haired receptionist yells from across the room, "Don't go in the restaurant" She decided that instead of placing a basic notice on the door or walking up, it would be more acceptable to yell at the top of your voice at guests across the hotel. As I stated the staff service leaves a lot to be desired.
I guess the staff like to gossip about the guests among themselves. Surprisingly the next day, the breakfast buffet waitress out of the blue, wanted to lecture about bringing guests to the hotel and explain how they don't have insurance for other people? Which made no sense because, while you may not be able to bring people into your hotel room, every hotel enables guests to visit other guests in the lobby.
There are better hotels with excellent service in Sorrento, I recommend avoiding this hotel, You can take your chance but this was our last stop on our April 2022 holiday after Amalfi and Capri, and ended up the most awful experience the entire trip.

We were unsure after reading some of the reviews but glad we didn’t change.
On arrival the staff were friendly and showed us how to get to our room.
We upgraded to a garden/pool room which was clean and had views of the lemon garden.
We didn’t have a problem with the shower as it was big enough, it fact it was bigger than our one at home.
Breakfast area was very clean and staff were very friendly and would get your hot drinks. There was a lot of cakes but there was also, bacon, eggs and sausages (sausages weren’t nice), bread, toast, pancakes, fresh fruit, yogurts and cereal, we didn’t go hungry.
Pool was very clean and we managed to get a sun bed every day even after coming back from trips.
Pool bar, we found the beer warm as they don’t have draught beer but the Limoncello Spritz were good.
Hotel was in a good location and we could be in the main square in about 6mins.

If you are going down to the harbour area and want to sunbathe the sun beds are €30 each so you might want to make a day of it.

Everything and everyone have been outstanding. The manager, Teresa, and her staff have been charming and helpful from resolving issues to recommendations to helping us with our Italian. Just a few minutes and you are in city center. No car needed. Yes, the rooms are small but are fine if you rethink where/how to store your items. Bed is comfortable, good AC, with extra blankets in the closet. Robes and slippers are provided. Additional hooks in the bathroom would be an added benefit.

Stayed at Hotel Capri for a week to attend a wedding in Sorrento.
Located on the main drag Corso Italiano in Sorrento, about a 10 to 15 min walk to the main square. (We walk fast. ) Located a 5 min walk to the bus and train station.
Hotel was sparkling clean, with hand sanitizer stations throughout.
Lobby was nice tho we didn’t sit or go to the bar.
Our room was nice, clean, well appointed with comfortable bed, fridge and kettle. Ask for the key to safe when you check in. We looked out over the garden and pool at the back. I chose this because I was unsure of noise from the busy street but balcony door was well insulated as we didn’t hear the fireworks that went on one night.
Lounge chairs are available around the pool. And a seating area further back.
Breakfast was good with a good selection of hot and cold, and fresh fruit.
The coffee could have been hotter along with the water that came out of the machine.
I almost cancelled this hotel after reading a reviewer complaining about the staff but I’m glad I didn’t. Not sure what the issue was but we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Our toilet seat came loose and it was fixed within the day.
I recommend this hotel.

First time I’ve ever cried saying goodbye to hotel staff…!! As a solo female traveler, feeling safe and “known” where I stay is one of the most important factors. At Hotel Capri, I felt like I was with family! The warm and efficient staff is the shining glory of this hotel. Teresa and Carlo and the team at the front desk, the amazing breakfast crew and sweet bartender and even Lina in housekeeping all made sure I felt welcome and settled. Additionally, the breakfast every day (included) was one of the best I’ve ever seen offering from fresh omelettes and pancakes to fruit, delicious pastries and meringue cookies! The room was very comfortable with bathrobe and slippers provided and the bed just right. The location of this hotel was PERFECT; so close to transportation, only a short walk to key sites and dining and even pizza by the slice across the street when you’re on the go. Hotel Capri and the staff who make it sparkle are one big reason I will certainly come back to Sorrento! Grazie Mille!!

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights, it was just a couple of minutes walk from the station and a couple of minutes walk to the main square so great location. On arrival the receptionist congratulated me on my Birthday and on arrival in our room was a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, some balloons and a Happy Birthday banner which I thought was great.
The room was good with a balcony, comfortable bed, tea and coffee facilities. The breakfast room was light and stylish we both enjoyed the breakfasts and the omelette station was great. A couple of afternoons we sat by the pool and it was very peaceful. The hotel recommended an Amalfi Coast excursion which they booked for us and it was excellent. A word of warning there are a lot of mosquitoes around so come with some repellent etc.!

We stayed as a group of friends in this central Sorrento hotel in late September.
The hotel was in the perfect location for us, only a stones throw away from the heart of Sorrento. The hotel was on the main road through the town, and could be a little noisy at busy times if you choose to have your window open, we open ours as we find air con drys us out too much. The rooms are nice but getting ready for a little TLC, especially the shower, which was good and hot, but a little tight and dated. The pool area was great, very little road noise considering the hotels position, the pool was very refreshing for cooling down on a sunny day.
Breakfast was of a good standard, with a fairly wide choice, but for me they could with crisping the bacon up a bit.
The hotel itself was very smart, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the area was great for eating and drinking with loads of choice and very handy for shopping and sightseeing. If we ever return to Sorrento we will certainly consider staying again

There are stairs and lifts to the bedrooms. The stair case wraps around the lift shaft if I remember correctly.

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting both Pompeii and Herculaneum and completely agree with the other posts - use Sorrento rail station as it is the quickest, cheapest and most flexible way of getting around. The train drops you off just around the corner from the main Pompeii entrance. For Herculaneum, the station is a 10 minute, straight line walk to the site. We arrived at both sites as they opened and so glad that we did before the tour groups arrived and swamped the sites. At both, we used the audio guides in conjunction with maps so that we could see everything in a route that suited us. We spent over 4 hours at Pompeii, so much to see and learn about, the size of the site is amazing. Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii and we spent about 2 hours there, but it was fascinating as it is better preserved with more of a 'lived in' feel'.
