The Grand Hotel De La Ville Sorrento garners acclaim for its attentive and professional staff, although the front desk service and housekeeping sometimes receive mixed reviews. Guests are enchanted by the rooftop pool and bar, which offer breathtaking views, and appreciate the hotel's beautiful gardens and dining selections, despite a few remarks about the breakfast variety. While the spacious and clean rooms are a hit for their stunning vistas, some guests suggest they could benefit from an update and quieter ambiance. The hotel's location is lauded for its tranquility and easy access to Sorrento's attractions. Overall, the hotel's cleanliness and classic Italian atmosphere are well-regarded, contributing to its perceived value.

We recently stayed at the Grand Hotel de la Ville in Sorrento for our honeymoon and had a generally wonderful experience. The hotel itself is beautiful, offering stunning views and a prime location close to the town center. The pools were gorgeous! The staff were friendly and attentive, with a special shout-out to Rosalisa and Costanzo for going above and beyond to make our stay top-notch. The breakfast was also fantastic, with a variety of delicious options to start our day.

However, we have to give it 4 out of 5 stars due to an unfortunate interaction during check-in. After a long travel day, we arrived at the hotel at 8 am and politely inquired if our room might be ready a bit earlier than the typical check-in time. Despite being informed by another staff member that they would do their best to accommodate us, the gentleman at the desk was incredibly rude. Instead of checking with housekeeping or making any effort to assist, he laughed and told us check-in would not be a minute before 3 pm. This lack of consideration and professionalism was very disappointing, especially since other hotels during our honeymoon were happy to accommodate similar requests.

While this negative encounter did impact our overall impression, the majority of our stay was enjoyable thanks to the excellent amenities and the standout service from most of the staff. With a bit more consistency in customer service, the Grand Hotel de la Ville could easily earn a full 5 stars.

For context, our group of five adults had already been in Italy (Florence and Rome) for 8 days by the time we got to Sorrento. We were scheduled to depart on July 1.

• The hotel was perfectly located, just a 10-minute walk to the main city square and a 20-minute walk to the marina. I never felt unsafe walking around the city.
• There is a rooftop pool, which gets quite hot during the day. The only downside was that it closed at 6:30 PM for rooftop dinner service—I wish I could have soaked up more sun!
• Another pool is located behind the breakfast area and was almost always empty. We loved its secret garden feel.
• Both pools were clean, with towels provided. There is also a bar at both locations, and you can charge directly to your room.
• Breakfast included a variety of snacks and an omelette/egg station. The wait staff was excellent.
• Lunch was also great! It was inexpensive, and you could take your leftovers for a snack later. The margherita pizza was my favorite.

In full transparency, I disliked the bathroom in my first room (pic attached). It felt very dated and had a bright orange ceiling. None of the other rooms in our group had this issue, as I believe they are slowly renovating.

Our flight was canceled on the day of check-out, and the hotel was able to accommodate five people (three rooms) for two more nights, for which we were very grateful as it was peak season. My second room was amazing! It had normal colors, was larger, and felt cleaner than the first room. It came with a large closet and an iron (missing from the first room). We also had a view of Mount Vesuvius from our balcony! My mother somehow scored a room with a rooftop patio and lounge chairs!

The Euro Cup tournament was playing, and the lobby bar showed the games on the big screen, which was fun. The hotel also offered a variety of activities at night. Highly recommend. Would stay again.

A fabulous hotel. We booked two twin rooms, one was a standard room which was located at the rear of the hotel on the 4th floor, the other a sea view room on the 5th floor. The standard view room was slightly larger but the sea view room had an amazing view of Vesuvius. The 5th floor rooms do have slight noise from the pool bar above but between the shutters, windows and air conditioning it is barely noticeable.
The staff were fantastic and friendly. Enza on the front desk could not have been more helpful. Samuele and De Costa in the restaurant were particularly friendly but all the restaurant staff were lovely. Dante in the bar was also nice as was the young man at the lower pool bar. The lower pool was our preference for swimming and shade while the 6th floor plunge pool was more geared towards sunbathing and drinking.
Breakfast was served in the beautiful gardens. Cereals, bread and pastries (the croissants with custard and strawberries were a huge hit), cheese, ham and a good choice of fruit, a cooked food area and an egg station. A very good European buffet.
We ate lunch at the hotel on many occasions. The bruschetta al pomodorino was a hit. Prices were reasonable as were the prices of drinks in the hotel restaurant. Prices for the mini bar were the same as in the restaurant.
At dinner there are about a dozen starters (pasta, risotto and pizza) a choice of about a dozen main courses (veal, fish, beef and vegetarian options) and three desserts presented on a trolley or the option of ice cream. The starters were huge portions and our favourite.
There were two special evenings during our week stay.
A special mention to the fabulous cleaning staff who kept the rooms immaculate.
Can’t wait to return!

Overall we were disappointed with our stay, upon arrival I asked for a bottle of water as I was hot & pregnant and they said “go to the bar”. Every other hotel I’ve stayed at has been forthcoming with water upon arrival. I’m not asking for complimentary alcohol over here.

Months before arrival, I asked for the two rooms I’d booked to be next to each other, the request was not met upon arrival as they said they were booked up. I literally gave them two months to accommodate such ask, which they failed to do so.

The hotel is clean but the rooms need updating and are incredibly noisy!! You can hear people in the hallway, next door and most of all screechy furniture moving! It’s so irritating when try to sleep. The bed was two single beds pushed together to create a double bed. The cleaners never followed instructions and even upon speaking to reception to instruct cleaning service after 10.30 they will did not listen. One of the cleaners also walked in on me naked and froze. We had to ask for more towels every single day, whereas you’d think they use their initiative and supply you more going forward.

The shower curtain in the bathrooms is quite disgusting and clings to your body, it also needs cleaning and replacing.

Breakfast was very limited and below average, none of the staff were particularly friendly. We didn’t eat in the hotel aside from breakfast.

Pool area is fine but opens late and closes early, plus you’ll spend time chasing staff for clean towels at the open time as the staff time their time to show up to the pool area.

Overall the hotel staff don’t make any efforts to improve your stay or make it pleasant. They really were not friendly or accommodating. I would definitely not return - this is not value for money either!

Dear valued guests, thank you for having chosen the Grand Hotel de la Ville. We are deeply sorry to read that your experience with us did not meet your expectations. First of all, we would like to apologize, and specify that our front desk staff does not have water bottles, therefore upon your request during check-in, you have been invited to get some from the bar (that is just behind the reception). In regards of your request of having rooms next to each other, we would like to point out that we allocated your party into two fine rooms, according to your reservation, located on the same floor, at a few meters distance from each other. We are really surprised to read your negative comment about cleanliness, and also in regards of breakfast, and about our staff. As you can see from other guests’ opinions, these are our strengths. Our staff is always very attentive and friendly with all guests, and for breakfast we always serve local fresh products. Plus, the housekeeping staff is happily available to accommodate guests’ requests, and they are very attentive into making sure that everything is clean and tidy. In conclusion, we anyways appreciate your feedback, because thanks to guests’ opinions we are able to improve the service offered. We hope to gain your trust again, and have the pleasure of hosting you in the nearest future. The Management

While this hotel has some excellent features, sadly there are some elements which mean the total experience was only average. First the positives - the garden restaurant is lovely, shaded by mature trees and an ideal place for lunch. The rooftop pool and bar have superb views over the bay of Naples, ideal for sunbathing, watching the sunset, or a drink after dark. The location is good, a short 10 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento and away from the busiest parts of the city. Sadly, the hotel could do with a refresh, our room smelt “musty” and they obviously got a good deal on ceramic tiles for the last refit, they are everywhere. The public areas, especially the main restaurant were more brightly lit than the average school canteen, and the evening meal food was simply awful, at best bland and lacking flavour (such a contrast from lunch) and we certainly regretted paying for half board. Book here for the positives, but avoid the evening restaurant.

A beautiful hotel with great reviews. Unfortunately, the service was less than desirable. The women at the front desk were friendly and helpful, but the males were not. We received a call to confirm our airport transportation and were told we would be provided a box breakfast since the restaurant would not be open yet. When we asked to change the time the man at the front desk said nothing was arranged without even looking. We insisted there was and he finally checked a notebook and found our arrangements. The boxed breakfast was not available upon our departure as promised. The restaurant had wonderful staff and service. I sat in the bar for about 20 minutes and was not acknowledged so decided to go for a walk instead.
Our room was to be a garden view. We were on the 3rd floor and faced an apartment building with balconies filled with laundry hanging, storage cabinets, Brooms, and mops. Looking down, you could see the hotel patio with seating. Not a garden view. The temperature-controlled pool was cold. Housekeeping was marginal. We would receive 1 - 2 bottles of water on 3 of our 11 days, turn down service with chocolates, on 2 of 11 days, and find a cleaning rag left behind. The instant coffee was replenished anywhere from 2 to 3 cups, but never the 4 we experienced our 1st day. There was no consistency. They may have been short-staffed.

Dear Clients , first of all thank you for dedicated us part of your time writing this review. We respect all sorts of criticism as long as they are constructive. It is very important for us to get to know about our Guests’ opinions about the Hotel because thanks to them we are able to improve it and modify time by time what you did not find fine. We are deeply sorry to read about your room and, after checking in our datas, we kindly inform you that you have been allocated into a fine room according to your hotel reservation: located on the rear side of the Hotel and, concerning the view, it overlooks our private park. We also would like to clarify that the Hotel location is in town, so it’s surrounded of residents buildings. Concerning the Housekeeping service, it always been very accurate and is one of the prides we have so, reading about your experience it’s something very weird to us. We checked the room status several times and probably by mistake the “do no disturb” was left on all day and mades are not allowed to walk into rooms. We replace the items in the minibar everyday and we are always very glad to provide more replacing when the Guests ask. Please accept our apologies for the rag left behind, it was a simply human error, we always work really hard to make our customers feel special and comfortable. However we have taken in great consideration your comments, which will help us to improve the service in our hotel. Our objective is continually improves our customers experience based on comments we receive. With our best regards The Management

We were pleased by the brightness, and spotless appearance of the lobby when arrived at Grand Hotel De La Ville.

We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome by the concierge and door man.

The room(s) were spotless, spacious and bright and airy.

We booked 3 rooms, and upon only one was ready ( we did arrive early ), so we were able to use the one room to leave our luggage and change to use the pool. The pool has an amazing view of the bay and Mt Vesuvius! We enjoyed appertivo at night and the sunset was AMAZING!

For dinner the first night we ate in the garden restaurant, the food was delicious, and the staff was accommodating and helpful. The morning breakfast ( which we enjoyed most mornings) was always well stoked with fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, pastries, fresh juices as well as an omelet station.

For us, the Grand Hotel De La Ville, was situated in the perfect location with an easy walk into "town" and the main square.

We used this location as our "hub" and were able to walk to the marina where we took the ferry to Positano for the day, and where we were picked up for our private boat tour of Capri.

Beautiful ocean view from our balcony room! Rooftop pool/bar was excellent and views were superb. AC was comfortable. Drinks were reasonably priced. Breakfast was good and they had a lot of variety. Rooms were clean and they had turndown service, removing used towels and refreshing the bathroom. Painted tile floors in room and bathroom. Furniture is a bit dated. Close to shopping and restaurants. I’d stay here again.

We had such an amazing time at the Grand Hotel De La Ville. It’s a beautiful hotel in a perfect location. We stayed in room 308 which had a fabulous view over the bay of Naples. Rooms are spacious, clean, well appointed and the air con was amazing in the searing 35+ degree heat. The bed was one of the comfiest Hotel beds I have ever slept in with good quality linens and lovely soft pillows.

The two big pluses for this hotel though are the rooftop pool and bar and the restaurant staff. The former is absolutely perfect for whiling away a sunny day on a comfy lounger, occasional dip in the pool to cool off and drinks on tap from the friendly bar staff.

The hotel restaurant is very efficient with breakfast a vast array of goodies to suit any palate and a lovely garden setting to enjoy it. We ate a couple of lunches and dinners at the restaurant as well and the food was always good and reasonably priced. The restaurant staff, particularly the manager Sam, were friendly and service was very very good.

Sorrento is quite a pricey place to stay, particularly front line hotels with bathing platforms close to the centre of town. The De La Ville was a fabulous option, only minutes from Piazza Tasso and with that rooftop pool and bar open till midnight I would go back in a heartbeat and have been recommending it to all my friends.

We are used to a high standard of hotel, when we go on holidays and this hotel did not disappoint!
It isn’t cheap, but it is value for money,in as much, you are made to feel welcome and valued as a client.
We had a beautiful room on the 5th floor, which was very well appointed and overlooking the Bay of Naples. Facilities,on the whole were excellent with a range of useful items for the bathroom. My only slight disappointment was the lack of milk ( fresh or UHT) for the tea/coffee station, especially as there was a fridge in the room. The prices of the Mini Bar contents were eye watering,as they are in all hotels, including the U.K.
The service provided by the staff ,makes the stay very special, they are attentive, professional and hard working, from the Housekeeping staff, across the board to the Reception staff.People were patient, helpful and good humoured at my attempts to speak Italian.
All the meals were excellent, large choice at breakfast and the three course dinner menus contained many recognised dishes and local Neapolitan ones.
The rooftop bar and pool area is very popular so we preferred the larger pool area, in the gardens; often having the pool to ourselves.
Sorrento is a very busy, lively and noisy place, so it was lovely to come back to the relative peace of this hotel.

We went at the end of October 2023 and the pool on the roof was definitely open. I don’t know about the other one. The bar on the roof was also open. In Sorrento itself, everything seemed to be fully open as far as we could see, certainly there was plenty of choice in terms of places to eat and drink!

Hi it’s a short walk into the town centre, basically on the flat. But there is a little bit of a hill up to the train station, if you need to know that.
