Fantastic place with very creative rooms, each is different, in the epic Sassi of Matera. Beautiful interior and lots of terraces with overwhelming views over this beautiful historic valley ! Above the hotel structure an elegant authentic restaurant with typical but modern highclass dishes. Very nice and friendly team ! Don't miss it when you're visiting Matera !

I stayed at this hotel on the 29th April 2017 for one night as part of a one week trip around southern Italy. The Hotel and service was excellent and the quality and cleanliness of the rooms was impeccable. The Hotels location in Matera is excellent, and I would recommend staying here to anyone. I will be returning as one...

A room in a cave. But what a cave. Beautifully appointed, quiet, comfortable. Great location in the sassi of Matera. Beautiful dining room, delicious breakfast, great espresso. This hotel really made us feel that we were part of the history of Matera rather than in a generic room that could be anywhere. Getting around in Matera and at this hotel...

This is a beautiful, unique hotel in the sassi of Matera. Its location is perfect and is a short walk to everything in the sassi and "new" Matera. The service throughout our stay was outstanding. Wifi was excellent. Breakfast was good each morning, including the coffee. Dinner at the restaurant was outstanding. Excellent food, wine, and service. One of the...

Dear essenceofcapri, we are happy to read your review. We are sorry for your parents but how we properly informed the room was in a cave but I assure you that the demumidificazione system is the latest generation and we care to ensure a perfect stay for our customers. There are many good aspects to this hotel and the official photos appear accurate, for photos. We wished we had checked the bathroom facilities beforehand as not all room sharers want to be able to see someone sitting on the loo from almost every aspect of our room. The major drawback (and it is a major drawback) is the damp....

Dear globaltraveler113, we are sorry to read your review. Some of our rooms have the bathrom with a glass door and the cave isn't never damp because we have a big system to avoid the humid. We are sorry that you didn't tell those things here, in that case we could change your room with another not in cave. Best...

I stayed here with my wife for 2 nights in the room shown in the photo - it's as cool as it looks! Room was very comfortable with all mod cons, only minor negative was that the shower is slightly small. As others have mentioned some rooms (including ours) have about 2 storeys of stairs to go up. Also for...

We like to stay in hotels that reflect the nature of the area. This is it! Very good experience overall. Our room was next to the restaurant and a bit of a climb but I'll be in better shape next time. Great location.

Matera is Matera, an unique experience in the world, one of the most ancient cities in the world. Completely built in caves (except the new town), therefore those who expect the amenities of a trip has to deal with the stone roads, climbs and descents of a fully carved in the rock city. The hotel Sant'Angelo is the best experience...

This hotel is built from a collection of caves that at one time were individual cave dwellings. Lucio, the owner, has done a wonderful job of creating an integrated hotel and fine restaurant from these humble beginnings. Rooms are quiet and comfortable. Restaurant serves very tasty local food with excellent service. I'd eagerly return.
