El Pilar is located right in the heart of Madrid, just a few meters from Plaza del Sol. For a very good price you get a nice, clean room with all the facilities of a hotel, the staff are really friendly and helpful, so just keep calm and enjoy!

Well this is not a photo of the entrance we saw ! However Good value ,great location . This is a budget hotel – it is on the second floor, there is a lift. It is a bit dowdy but the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room had very little natural light so at first we were a bit...

This hostal is located literally less than a minutes walk from Sol square. Couldn't have asked for more for the location. The rooms are very small but clean. We had a room at the back of the hostel so never had any issues of noise from the street. The adjoining walls are very thin however and could hear the guys...

This hostel is located right behind Puerta del Sol, so you can't possibly find a hostel with a better location. The rooms are small, but clean. The staff is always very helpful. Overall, it's good value for money if you are only staying for a few days. Tip: ask for a room away from the reception desk. My room was...

Hostal El Pilar is located steps from Puerta del Sol, KM0 of Spain. It is a stroll away from all the other major tourist attractions of Madrid. The best thing is that you have private rooms with en-suite bathroom. The only inconvenience is that the rooms are very small and the lighting on the hallway sometimes does not work. The...

This hostel was advised by a colleague - who also works for Travel Counsellors. Other customers had stayed there and gave a positive review of the hostel. And so do I. The name 'Hostal' can easily be changed into 'Hotel': you have your private room with private bathroom, air-conditioning in the room and daily housekeeping service (new towels, bed redone)...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
