Great hostel, very clean and tidy. I would say it is more like a hotel than a hostel, I stayed in a private room with two friends and we were upgraded to have our own bathroom. Very good location, right in the centre of the city. On arrival we had to transfer to I different building across the road, not...

Simply put great location, bit dodgy on the reception side of things, new bathroom and smallish but clean room. The hostel is really hard to find when you arrive. The sign out the front is tiny and then if the door is closed you need to buzz them and often they did not answer the buzzer. This happened once at...

I found Luis Velez on hostelworld and made a reservation. We wanted a cheap room with shared bathroom. The owner tends to overbook the hostel (I found comments sayinb about that) and we heard that there is no room, like we asked for. When we said we were not moving to another place he offered and we didn't want to...

Students Hostel Luis Velez looks a little sketchy from the outside, but it's fantastic on the inside. The hostel is right near several metro stops, Calle de Atocha, and the Puerta del Sol. In fact, it's so close to Madrid's main sights that we barely used the excellent public transportation system. We stayed in a five bedded room with shared...

Hostel was more like a hotel. My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nIghts and it was fantastic. For 50 euro per night, we had a double bed, ensuite and balcony view of the street. Room was spotless and staff were very friendly in attempts to communicate. Very good hotel, outstanding hostel

Although this hostel is very well located (near a subway station and most of the best bar/clubs of the city), the service is very lacking. When we asked the staff for questions they acted as if we were really bothering them. One kept talking on the phone with her boyfriend. It is also very noisy, it wasn't the people, it...

We only stayed there one night, but the hostel was spotlessly clean, easy to find, close to restaurants and shopping.

This is the best "hostel" I have ever stayed in. Our double room with ensuite was spotless, comfortable, and far better than I expected for the price. It even had a tiny private balcony. We were only in Madrid for the night, so the hostel's location was perfect...just steps from the metro and the centre!

We enjoyed the free upgrade (to an ensuite). Tidy room, cleaned daily. You might want to take some earplugs, as the traffic can be disturbing your sleep. Would come again!

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
