Plenty of eating places and bars in the vicinity and its convenient for walking to many of the main attractions of Madrid. It is one of a number of hostels contained within a large beautiful building on the Gran Via....

Nice small hostel, with small rooms but big enough to sleep and spend some resting time. There is even a small solarium where you can spend time in the sun without leaving the hostel. On the other hand, there is no one at the reception during the night, so you need to show your card to the concierge that will...

I booked this place online at very short notice - so short notice in fact that the receptionist was processing it as I walked through the door The rooms are simple, but clean and functional. The shower is nice and powerful, and the wifi is good. I was there during summer, and whilst the AC isn't going to win any...

Stayed at Hostal La Plata for three nights in June. Received a very warm welcome on arrival. Hostal is one of a number of hostals housed in a large building. Found the room clean, not very large but adequate with en suite with shower. Cleanliness was maintained throughout and room serviced every day. Fantastic location two minutes from Gran Via...

Location is very good , staff is very helpfull and friendly. I also like the style of the furnitures. Some people wrote that they are old. But for us it looks very vintage. However, there is no staff at the reception after 11pm and you have to enter with the doorman of the apartmant after that hour. The bad thing about...

We stayed here for 2 days and I was hesitant staying in a hostal due to previous bad experiences however after checking in I was more than happy. Stayed in a family room with newly renovated bathroom, rooms cleaned daily and felt safe knowing noone can get in early in the morning without getting past the concierge. Close to everything...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
