I normally stay in cheap hotels but found a good deal at Horizonte on a booking website so decided on a change. It is really amazing! I felt like I had gone back in time when i walked in. If your looking for old traditional Spain then this is it! The hostal is in the best location for sightseeing, shopping...

A tiny, charming hotel with: perfect location, interesting decor, kind and professional personnel, excellent value for money and 5-stars cleaninless. I would recommend it for everyone who wants to visit the city or needs to stay overnight to catch a train (very close to the train station).

Quite central location and good price. It is an old big flat adapted for a hotel. Quiet small and simple room and original decoration around. Small chat with the owner about filology, travels and opera. The shower had not door so I let all the floor full of water. The bed was quite springy but my back was ok.

We were lured here after seeing the photos of what appeared to be a charming hostel...we were sadly mislead. As soon as we entered the room it stank of damp. The room was freezing cold and there were no duvets. The man on reception was extremely rude and unhelpful. A guest on their way out warned us that the place...

Solo traveller, Booked room with bathroom. Great place, perfect location for the galleries, palace and main square. Friendly. Clean and tidy. No traffic noise as room not facing street (can cope with no street view if get a decent night's sleep!). Loved the décor. Room large enough. Good places for breakfast up and down the street and bar down the...

Hostal Fonda Horizonte, like most hostals in Spain, is a small hotel as opposed to a hostel. In a historic building very close to Plaza de Santa Ana in a super location for site seeing. We were going to be in Madrid for just a short time as the beginning of a month long trip to Spain. We really didn't...

One of myriad Madrid guest house hostels, but with an excellent location, right in the middle of the busy and charming district around Plaza Santa Ana, a stone´s throw from Puerta del Sol/Plaza Mayor (Madrid´s "km 0") and handy for partying, eating and drinking in La Latina, and comfortably outside the less desirable residential area of Lavapies. Good connections to...

We booked a room last minute. but the choice was excellent. The hotel has an amazing, antique interior, which takes you to the beginning of the 20th century, i's high ceiling, authentic antique decorations, amazing floors and furniture from the epoque. The hotel is very clean, in excellent location and the owner is one of the loveliest persons I had...

A last minute booking but was satisfied with the value. A decent location once we found our way around. The room was comfortable and the hostal itself had a lot of character. Communication was a bit difficult but the owner was extremely nice. He suggested a great restaurant for a first night of vacation. A good place if you are...

Firstly let me say that a few of my issues are not directly the fault of the hostel, but as it is in a residential block it can be very loud at night. I have literally just left the hostel after being kept awake until 5am by the screaming of someone in the block. This happened 2 nights running.my main...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.

“Choose an internal room and risk the nosiy neighbour, if there are external rooms, you run the risk of night revellers returning home and early traffic. Quite normal for Madrid city centre.”
