The Mirentxu was a bit like a funeral home; the lights were dim and the place was creepy. This is a hostal not an hotel, but there are good bright happy hostals to be found. Their website pictures are beautiful, stylish, modern. Based on my experience, the truth is the complete opposite. What photoshop and airbrushing can do is just...

I must be the only one who feels like this but there is no Air Conditioning in the rooms at this place. After we paid and checked in they told us there is no AC and their website says that when we made the reservation. Neither their website states this nor does Hotels.com where we made the booking. Also when...

If you are an independent Spanish speaker, the Mirentxu can be a great value option. I used to live in Madrid, so I knew it was in a great location that was safe and convenient to all the major sites. I had a single without bath right near the front desk. The proximity was not a problem since the front...

We stayed for 4 nights and found it to be a very good choice. We took the metro from the airport (its a few changes but we had no problems since it's a very good system) and walked from the station to the hostel. It is not all that well signed but there are 2 others in the same building...

Excellent location, you can walk to Sol in 5-10 minutes. Sevilla metro station is about 5 minutes away. You can catch the train from the airport, and switch lines twice to arrive at Sevilla. You can also walk to the bars in Huertas from the hotel. Quaint décor, I had a single room with shared bathroom and toilets. All very...

Stayed here for 7 nights and this was absolutely perfect. The room was exceptionally clean and had all the basic necessities including a sink and a good mirror. Towels were provided and there was a daily cleaning service as well. The bed was very decent and I rested well. The hotel is very centrally located however it is a bit...

We had an excellent one night stay at Hostal Mirentxu. The location is great, and the hostal offers excellent value for money. Staff is friendly and professional, and is willing to go the extra mile. The property is clean and well maintained. A decent breakfast is served in a stylish classically furnished dining room for a small fee. We were...

This hotels location is spot on, a 2 minutes maximum walk from the heart of Madrid's city centre. But the hotel has a feeling of depression about it. It looks boring. If you have had a bad day in Madrid then the thought of going back to this hotel at night will make your day even worse. If you have...

The staff at Mirentxu went out of their way to help us with everything from tricky keys and missing towels to map reading and language practice. They also stored our luggage after check-out until our evening flight. Mirentxu is centrally located, with an excellent clean and quiet atmosphere. Well worth the price for a double room with shower--the shared bathrooms...

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
