I spent 4 days in Madrid and staying in Ganivet was an amazing choice! The location was great as you can walk anywhere in the city and avoid all transportation fares! The room was great for 2 people, big enough, very clean, as was the bathroom as well! The staff was very helpful, indeed knew their job, they were fast and...

Location is great for accessing Madrid, with Puerta de Toledo Metro nearby. Rooms clean and well maintained with everything expected. Reception staff were efficient but not especially friendly. Bar staff were fabulous, welcoming, funny and friendly. The breakfast room lacks atmosphere but the food was fine. We had a room at the front away from the lift (ref. previous reviewer)...

Situated on Puerto Toledo and very close to the Puerto de Toledo metro stop which is on the green line. It is also a short walk to La Latina and the famous Calle Cava Baja with its many bars and restaurants. It's also very close to the Basilica San Francisco. The walk to Plaza Mayor and other sights isn't too...

A very friendly hotel, the staff were helpful, and the hotel bar and restaurant prices very reasonable, coffee and an enormous brandy as a nightcap was well enjoyed. The location on the Calle Toledo is ideal for visiting most of the attractions in Madrid, but is also relatively quiet to enable a peaceful sleep. I would recommend this hotel as...

The Hotel was what it said on the tin. Good rooms that were clean, modern and well kept. This was true of the hotel in general. The hotel was ideally located for the main tourist attractions. It is easy to reach on the Madrid underground. Get off at La Latina. You can then walk down the hill to the hotel....

Stayed at the Ganivet Hotel for 4 nights at the start of Feb 2012. Ideal location only a 2 minute walk fro Puerta De Toleda Metro station. It is within walking distance of Plaza Mayor and if you head in the opposite direction the Vicente Calderon is a 15 minute walk away. Room itself was clean and large enough if...

Didn't want to fall into the usual tourist trap in Madrid, so decided La Latina would be an interesting alternative. The area is great with numerous bars and tapas restaurants all over. It's walkable into the main city centre too. The hotel itself was great. The staff could not have been any friendlier. Bar staff, reception staff were all very...

We stayed at Ganivet Hotel in January 2012. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, staff helpful and friendly and the car park under the hotel very useful. This hotel is a good base for central Madrid being close to the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and the amazing Mercado de San Miguel.

Staying in La Latina

Neighbourhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighbourhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighbourhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.
