I would characterize this hotel as in transition. From small, family run to "boutique". We arrived at this hotel because our airbnb rental was locked and no one around to let us in. Our cab driver brought us here. This could have been a very risky thing. We have all heard the horror stories. Ours is one of the happy...

Positives include good beds, and had a room safe. Gal at lobby desk was helpful. Negatives include: very tiny room, all night street noises (room not sound proofed when other guests are noisy after a night on the town), and police sirens frequently at night, a very tiny bathroom, tiny soap, no shampoo, slippery tub hard to get into and...

Hotel is located at an excellent location, very close to Plaza, Palace and Central Park. The service was excellent and our room was quite good. Reception staff was able to guide us well on local travel.

Spotlessly clean, very good and safe location, 24 hour access, reception staff that speak English, in general nice staff, all great. However - internet access only in the reception area, room on the small side and rather basic, breakfast is just a croissant or other pastry and tea/coffee - you are better off saving your money and going round the...

The service was excellent and our room was good. The only issue - noisy area, but in Madrid nobody goes to sleep before 1 AM. A metro station was 50m away. Don't bother with breakfast in the hotel, visit AllUcanEat - http://www.auce.es/. Trip to/from airport was EU30 - fixed price.

Found this hotel very easily as close to the underground which is handy for getting around Madrid. Also close to buses and other attractions. The hotel is shabby and could do with a refurb but we found all the staff very helpful and friendly. The first room we were given had an awful buzzing when we asked to change room...

Recently stayed one night at the Senorial Hotel, that was quite enough, thank you very much. We booked a room for three people for three nights. Upon our arrival and check in we were issued a remote control for the TV, this was different. When we got the room our daughter commented on how she has stayed in nicer youth...

Although inexpensive for capital city centre the rooms were shabby. The breakfast had been described as tasty but was in fact very limited and disappointing. The staff however were very helpful and we were able to park our hired car on the street in the couple of bays reserved for hotel guests at no charge

This was a quaint and small hotel run by Alicia and Julio and family. Super, super nice folks. Clean and extremely close to Plaza Espana where Don Quixote / Cervantes statue is. Walking to the El Cortes Department Store one block off the Main drag, Gran Via. Not necessarily outfitted with refrigerator/ mini bar, Alicia ran across the street to...

Booked this hotel after reading reviews here because we needed a room for two nights in Madrid, and the location versus the price gave us the best combination. It is a bit rub down, the furnishings a bit tatty, and our room was tiny, with just enough room to get past the beds to the equally tiny bathroom. In terms...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
