You will not do better than the Emperador Hotel in Madrid. The hotel is just across the street from a Metro entrance (San Domingo), and right in the middle of the Gran Via. It is ideally located within walking distance to the Royal Palace, the Opera, the Egyptian temple, the Plaza Mayor, the bus tours etc. etc. Even though the...

The hotel is located on the main Gran Via between the major stores and the theatres and within walking distance of the main Madrid attractions. We had a room facing the Gran Via but at no time did we hear any street noise despite the fact that the city didn't seem to quieten down until well after midnight. Breakfast was...

LOCATION: Great location right on the main street. Theaters and restaurants in each direction. RECEPTION: Very helpful Brought us another chair. Helped with PC computer - Francisco Molina was super. ROOM: Probably the most spacious and well laid out in our tour. Beds with room between. Furniture was old fashioned and needing touch-up. BEDS: Beds still a bit too hard,...

The biggest advantage is the central location of the hotel and proximity to the metro. The room I stayed in is antiquated and needs a renovation, issues with water pressure, but clean and reasonable. The breakfast is ok, although the coffee is well below what you would expect in Madrid.

Centrally located. Easy walk to anywhere in Madrid you want to go (if you like to walk), close to Metro and always taxis outside. Down the street from the Palace, the plazas, the best Tapas restaurants, and much more. Amazing staff. Very attentive needs of the guests. High floors quieter. The extra money for balcony and larger room is nice,...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
