Stayed 1 night as part of an excellent inclusive deal with BA. Warmly welcomed. Good enough room with a street view but still quiet. Breakfast time was actually not what was stated in the room, finishing earlier but the staff were relaxed about it. The breakfast was good. Location was central for walking and also to access to the metro...

Firstly let me start by saying this hotel isn't a bad hotel. It was average but with a little tweaking could be a lovely place to stay. The Room I was a singe traveller so put in what felt like the smallest room in the hotel but it was perfectly acceptable for my needs. However, they clearly had split one...

Stayed at the hotel over the weekend of the Champion's League final and felt right amongst the atmosphere but a quiet location come evening. Just off the main thoroughfares of Gran Via and Calle de Arenal, ideally located for easy reach of the Royal Palace and most of the key attractions. Perfect for hopping on the open top bus tour...

We went to the Hotel Opera in May and we really enjoyed our stay. Extremely nice and very helpful staff and its location is absolutely perfect! We did not have to take the transport at all - we could walk virtually to every major tourist attraction in Madrid. The area is beautiful with a lot going on during the day...

For Madrid, this hotel is in an great location - you can easily walk to so many of the great sites, including the Palace, Mercado, Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Espana. Outside the hotel is a really nice small plaza with restaurants and while I was there a great little food fair. I had a single room and I...

We stayed for four nights and couldn't believe the location. It's really close to the palace and (unsurprisingly) the Opera House, which means it's also close to lots of shops and restaurants. A lot of the shops are open late so you can go for a browse after dinner, you know you're on holiday when you can do that! Great...

Hotel is in a great location for sight-seeing, and the staff were charming and helpful but we had the smallest room imaginable (on the 7th floor) - hardly adequate for 1 person let alone 2! The bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom. Room very noisy too - we couldn't open the window at night because of the street...

Had a wonderful stay of six nights at the Hotel Opera. The service from all the staff was impeccable. Nothing was too much trouble. One day we mistakenly left a "Do not disturb" sign on the door and forgot to turn it around for the maid service. When we returned in the afternoon, we informed reception who immediately arranged for...

We. visited the hotel for a wedding anniversary break and were extremely pleased with our choice. Our room on the 4 th floor was clean, spacious and had all we wanted apart from a kettle and BBC World on the tv!! Super bathroom with fluffy towels and good sized walk in shower. Only slight issue was the bottle bank emptying...

We stayed at this hotel for a mid-week trip to Madrid. We booked this through British Airways and it definitely met our expectations. The rooms were clean and the location is great. It was so easy to get to the Royal Palace (you can literally see it from the front entrance!) and Plaza Major, Mercado San Miguel and Puerto del...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
