The Hotel Opera in Madrid is located in the heart of Madrid's center in a quiet off the corner street. What impressed me the most about this hotel is it's service, the check in staff was very friendly and they made sure that I was being taken care of when I needed directions, taxi service and even made sure my...

We bought a great value package flight + hotel with British Airways and we are extremely pleased of our choice. The hotel is central but on a quiet alley, our room was not big but modern, functional and clean. Service was excellent. Highly recommended

We found this hotel to be a good value. It is in a great location, with a metro stop just across the plaza and a taxi stand right outside. The room was pleasant, and the air conditioning was really good (in contrast to many other hotels in which we have stayed in Spain). The restaurant was fine for what we...

although the hotel itself claim that it is a 4 star facility, it is actually far from it. however, breakfast was OK and also service was fine. rooms are a little bit odd and need to be refurbished. bathroom ok, but with no feeling for details. generally, a bit costly compare to what you get... but at the very nice...

The hotel is modern, clean and has friendly staff. My room was of a good size. There is a good selection of hot and cold food for breakfast. The location of the hotel is ideal as a base for sightseeing in Madrid. However, there was a downside i.e. NOISE. I did not sleep very well as during the the night...

My wife, teen age son, mother and I stayed from Feb 18-23 2017 and we had a wonderful time. The rooms were on the smaller side, but functional. The location is across the street from the Royal Palace and tons of opportunities close by and easily accessible walking. The front desk staff was great, Nicholas was wonderful in the restaurant....

(English / Español) We stayed in one of the top floor rooms which have a hydro-bath that is glass enclosed but out on the terrace area. The weather was cold, but we could still enjoy the enclosed Jacuzzi. No sure how hot it would be in the summer on that terrace though. The jacussi room is glass and opens up...

This hotel is in a great location right by the palace in Madrid. Upon arriving we were greeted at reception by a very pleasant and friendly man who told us all about the hotel, checked us in and gave us complimentary sangria from the bar/cafe. Our room was slightly run down and could do with a fresh lick of paint...

The best part of the hotel is its central location (right next to the opera house..dah...). The rooms are rather small but have everything you need. The interior design is nothing special but not bad either. The most important thing is that they are clean. The breakfast buffet is rather small but you definitely get enough. It is not the...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
