Stayed here for 3 days in October. It was a nice hotel - nothing amazing. In a great location if you like the hustle and bustle of Madrid. Room and bathroom were clean and the Wi-Fi worked well. The only thing is make sure you ask for a room in the front of the hotel. We were in the back...

I love Madrid- my 4th time there and definately not the last. Sateyd at the BW Arosa Last year which was quite a dissapointment. Carlos V- perfectly located right between Puerta del Sol and Gran Via- just in front Corte Ingles- supermarket. Easy acces to everything. The hotel is located in a narrow street- rooms on lower floors might experience...

This hotel is conveniently located on a pedestrian street (which made it somewhat quieter) but was somewhat difficult for our taxi driver to figure out to get to it…luckily it was early in the morning so he just drove down the pedestrian street! Room was a typical euro style (small) room but was nice. The staff was really helpful and...

We have just returned from 3 nights at the hotel and were really pleased with our choice, the hotel is located within a couple minutes walk of the Puerta Del Sol, the hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful and polite, breakfast was very nice and plenty of choice. There is a lot of building work...

Appx 5 mins from Grand Via and all the theatres. Walking distance to all major attractions. Metro station just down the road. Hotel was clean, tidy,...

I stayed at this hotel for one night only as I was in Madrid for a business trip. The staff was helpful, the room was clean and comfortable as well as the bathroom. The only negative point was that there was nothing to see from my window as it was showing inside the building (people knowing Spanish buildings know what...

the first impression was depressing. The bed cover, carpets and curtains looked really old. But as we saw it more, it wasn't that bad and the rooms and the hotel in general was quite clean. The air con looks dated again and I was worried about catching Legionella pneumonia. They could have redone the carpets and curtains to show that...

I stayed at the Carlos V for four nights in July. It is in a VERY good location for tourists. It’s in a pedestrian area next to Puerta del Sol and very close to the Sol Metro stop. However, there are a lot of other hotels in the same general area, including the Europa and the Regente. Based on TripAdvisor...

I was very pleased with this hotel - it was an abnormally hot May (temperatures in the high 30's) and the effective airconditioning was most appreciated. The room was very pleasant with everything (including combs provided). There is a van to take you to the airport for under 10 Euros, which is good to know. Breakfast was excellent, and the...

This is an excellent choice for tourists. Location in pedestrian area next to Puerta del Sol. Staff was helpful, spoke English. Our room was on the 2nd floor and faced the street. Air con worked GREAT - it was 100 oF outside, but our room was nice and cool. Breakfast was nice, but a bit spendy, proabaly wouldn't do that...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
