Brilliantly situated hotel in walking distance of many of the main attractions of Madrid. Easy access to the museums, park, mercado, shops etc and a bus stop outside, either for public transport or the big red bus tours. The hotel is spotlessly clean and well furnished. Modern interior with a great bathroom/shower, plenty of plug points, air con and hairdryer...

We stayed at this hotel as we didn't want to pay a fortune for 5 star luxury when all we would do would be sleep there. The price was reasonable and when we arrived we saw that the location was fantastic. Within walking distance of so many attractions. We got the Linea Express airport bus to cibeles (5 euro per...

The Catalonia Gran Via is well located, it is well furnished, clean and the staff are very friendly and efficient. We arrived late but this was not a problem to the staff, we stayed three nights and I would not hesitate to book another stay at this hotel.

We stayed at the Catalonia Gran Via for four nights and one of its major 'selling points' is surely its location, with many of the city's main places of interest within walking distance, including Puerta del Sol/Plaza Mayor, Parc de Retiro, Palacio Real and various art galleries. Our room (632) was on the top floor and had its own enclosed...

Stayed in this hotel with Riviera Travel your for four nights in April. The hotel is situated in the perfect location for shops and museums as well as the famous art galleries. The rooms are well equipped, comfortable and the housekeeping was very good indeed. Staff on reception were obliging and helpful. The buffet style breakfast is excellent with everything...

Away for a girls weekend, slow check in despite pre paying, had no note that we had already paid for breakfast so tried to charge us again, €17 pp for breakfast! Our room was at the side of the hotel and so woken up each night around 4am by the bin men. Room was clean and nice and spacious enough...

Clean, well situated and very comfortable. Staff were super friendly efficient and also spoke great English wish helped with our visit! I would definitely stay at the same hotel on a return trip. We parked in a parking lot close-by and this made our movement around the city really easy.

We travelled as a group of 10 in total we had 3 double rooms and one suite with Jacuzzi and terrace. One of the double rooms was the newer type(much netter) but the other two were older rooms. My family stayed in the suite we asked the hotel before hand if children (12 & 8) could stay in the suite...

We were welcomed very warmly, but it was strongly suggested that we upgrade our room. It was presented that there'd be a coffee maker as a plus. We chose not to upgrade. Our room size was ok, but faced a shaft so there was no way to see what the weather was. Very disappointing. Have to say that there was...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
