Really disappointing. Despite comfortable beds and pillows, the rooms are old, dated and cramped. No sound proofing between rooms. Courtyard-view rooms must be avoided as they tend to stink of food from hotel's kitchen below. Very reasonable rates means you have to reign in expectations but there is no way this hotel should be a 5☆, even in Madrid. There...

My third visit to Villa real. Great rooms, wonderful dining but what really makes it special, the people. Reception and bell staff can't be better. The hotels location is one of the best in the city. Steps to puerta de sol andar retiro park make for a great location.

Elegant Five Star hotel in an upscale area just around the corner from the Thysen Bornemisa Museum and near the Prado. Very nice, quiet room and the hotel is set back from nearby streets with traffic. Helpful staff provided good advice with directions and helped us orient us to Madrid's major attractions, most of which are within walking distance. The...

Our visit was booked for us as part of a cruise holiday on The River Douro which started in Lisbon. So we did not choose the location however Imagine Cruising's choice was excellent and it made a very finale to our holiday.

Stayed here twice now in consecutive years while traveling through Spain. Think its in an excellent location walking to lots of tourist places. However, it does not deserve a full 5 stars, lots of small flaws in service and amenities that detract which is ashame. For instance the bar is tiny and understaffed (both visits) and the food served in...

Not a full blown 5* Hotel as most westerners would put it. The hotel is ideally located for walking around the city. Staff are fantastic, rooms are ok for what you'd expect however we found them not to be very sound proof! You could hear everything going on next door. Buffet breakfast is amazing.

I loved this hotel because it was in the best location for museums and parks, had extremely comfortable beds and an excellent staff. It is up the street from "luxury" hotels that are double the price but this hotel is on a quieter side street. I mean I felt so vindicated by my research. The rooms also have a couch...

The location of the hotel is very good with everything being within an easy walking distance. The room was very clean and spacious. Our room had an upstairs master suite with bath and another living/pullout sofa on the bottom floor with another bathroom. The upstairs terrace was a nice touch as well. It was very warm outside the days we...

The A/C was broken both days of our stay. The temperatures were in the high 70's, however our room was on floor 5 with large windows facing the sun. It was well over 90 degrees in the rooms both days and it was so hot it was impossible to sleep.

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
