I want to highlight how good I have felt in Veracruz hotel recently. Last week I spent some days in the capital city. I got shocked when I realized that my bedroom was not noisy at all; the room was trendy decorated giving a calm and quite atmosphere; and the most important, my large bathroom was totally clean and the...

First of all, the hostal is located in the midst of many stores, bars and restaurants, so needless to say, it is a bit noisy. Personally, I love the constant chatter and music throughout the day and night, but if you prefer to have a quiet night, I might suggest you stay elsewhere. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating....

We liked staying at Hostal Veracruz in their quadruple room. If you do not want to spend too much money but you would like to feel the Spanish athmosphere around you, it is worth booking a room here. BUT if you need a silent night, avoid this place, it was very noisy, you can enjoy party in your bed from...

English version: This Hostal is located right in the center of Madrid, so it was worth the money we paid (60€/night). The interior of the building is old as well as the elevator, but don't worry! Everything works just fine :) The hotel is on the 3rd floor. The Staff were 5Stars (thanks Ruben!), the room with bathroom was comfortable...

Like the other review from me550 NOISY...we booked this for a Fri/Sat/Sun for our last couple days in Spain, last stop Madrid. The entrance is a bit dodgy-grungy, the elevator was rickety (part of the floor is held together with duct tape). The staff was nice enough and showed us to our room. The hallway towards the rooms from the...

Dear costumer, Thank you for choosing to stay at Hostal Veracruz and writing a review. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay, which according to our records was in March 2012. I am pleased to report that since this time, the hostel has undergone significant upgrades in the entrance and elevator. We are so sorry about the...

I booked five nights in Hostal VeraCruz. The staff were nice and I got a good room, small but clean and warm. The downside was the hostel is on a very noisy corner of two streets. I barely got a wink of sleep between 11pm and 8am the next morning -- noisy people on the street, mopeds, bottle recycles --...

Hostel Veracruz is in a fab location in the lively sol area of madrid. Room was clean and plenty big enough. Reception v helpful- could leave luggage at hotel after checkout and free safety deposit box. Fab value for 60 euro per room per night. Lots of bars nearby and all sites within 20 min walk. One thing to point...

We really enjoyed Hostal Veracruz, it's located right in the centre of Madrid so we were able to walk everywhere. The rooms were very basic & cosy but clean. The owners seem to live there, so there was always someone on the front desk or nearby & they were very friendly. Our only qualm was the noise - the location...

This is the second time I've stayed here and whenever I'm in Madrid again I will stay here again. First, the location is excellent. A small block away from Plaza del Sol and Sol Metro and Cercanias Station that can take you anywhere in Madrid and beyond Madrid. The Plaza de Cibeles and Plaza Mayor, Gran Via, Callao are also...

This hostal is a modest establishment, but offered us a wonderful city break. Thanks to its central location, all the cultural highlights (galleries, opera house) are within easy walking distance. The room was small but well thought out. Everything was spotlessly clean and freshly painted. The full length windows had outer blinds and inner shutters which were so heavy and...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
