For one night is ok, I had to sleep there couple hours before going to the flat I was renting. Cheap, clean, friendly staff. For more nights,i think I couldn‘t stay there. Too small room, no window, makes you have claustrophobia. Location is perfect, 2 minutes walking from Plaza Mayor and just opposit from the Mercado de San Miguel. Price...

I spent a night there in a single room, and I'm actually satisfied with the hostel. The room and shared bathroom were both clean, there were good wifi connection and the receptionist was very kind. The hostel has a great location near Puertal del Sol and a very nice market. The only bad thing that it was very noisy at...

Once you find the hotel (or hostel, depending on your own definition), it's actually in a great area. It's near the Plaza de San Miguel market, Plaza Mayor, and hundreds of awesome tapas and restaurants, as well as mini-markets. It's also a short walk from Puerta del Sol Metro. However, the hotel doesn't not have clear sign, it took me...

Very comfortable place to stay! Centrally located, friendly staff, clean washrooms etc. Things to be weary about are that there are no windows and the blanket was old and torn and the walls might just be very thin . Otherwise i would totally reccommend! At a price it even has a pick an drop service from the airport. Really helps!!!

The location is good. 8 min walk to the 2 famous plazas and the metro station. Next to a food market and everything. Room is too small and doesn't have windows. It's very hot at night and it feels weird without windows! Receptionist at night shift doesn't speak English and I have to use google translator to ask him where...

This hostel is just behind right the food market san Miguel. Great location as it is beside plaza mayor where there's lots of entertainment and lots of nice restaurants. But beware of the noise early in the morning when the people are preparing for the market. Staff are very friendly and we use sign language to communicate as some of...

I loved this hostel. It is a little bigger than some, on two floors of a building in Plaza San Miguel. A very professional staff. The receptionist did have change for a 50 Euro note so he said just bring by change later in the day which was very convenient for me. I stayed there with my daughter who is...

This hostal offers small or even claustrophobic rooms but for a reasonable price. Rooms and shared bathroom with shower clean and tidy. It might be hotter in the season as there was no window in the room. Very basic furninshing, just to leave your belongings and go sightseeing. Market just opposite the hostal but despite of this it was very...

We stayed in Hostal Abaaly just for one night. The room was quite simple, but clean, and so were the bathrooms. The hotel's location is excellent, it's right next to Mercado de San Miguel, 5 minutes walking from Sol metro station. Despite being in the city centre, it was surprisingly quiet at night (it was Saturday night). There's many good...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
