First, the owner of the pension is very helpful and friendly. My room was very clean. The rooms are small yes, but if you are hanging out in your room that much then you should just stay at home. This is a hostel style hotel but with private bathrooms in each room. The owner cleaned my room and gave me fresh towels daily. He also changed the bedding a few times and mopped the floors. I stayed here last year and just booked another stay for next month, in reading the reviews I decided to write one from my last stay as there aren't very many posted. This pension is in an amazing location.....just blocks (like three) from the Gran Via Metro station and about the same from the Chueca area of Madrid. I plan on staying here many more times. More

Ok, so you get what you pay for, this is a cheap place to stay. It's above a sex shop in a street crawling with hookers at all hours of the day and night.

This was not a pleasant room. More like a cupboard. Very small and dark, even with shutters and window wide open at midday you need to have the lights on. The shower, sink and toilet are actually in the room only half masked by metre long, three quarter high panel. Laying on the bed you get a lovely view of the toilet, one of those chemical type loos that you would install where you don't have a large waste pipe. You have to sit on it sideways as it's so close to the aforementioned panel. There's no aircon, so will be very hot in summer. The bed is short and the duvet cover had seen better days.

Having said this I think I was particularly unlucky, I noticed some other rooms looked much better, the doubles were spacious and light.

It's a bit noisy as you can hear people coming and going, chatting and...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
