First time in Madrid. Never thought language barrier is a problem until we arrived in Madrid. Airport personnel not talking the international language i.e. English. Went to a cab notwithstanding that they do speak English. It turned out NO. Good thing to hear when we checked in at the hostel when we were approached by an English speaking front desk...

The good things - the staff are lovely. The place is clean and in a good location. The bad things - very hard to find the hostal at night - not made clear its on the first floor and very little clear signage outside when you are not familiar with the area. We were given room no. 1 beside reception....

Lovely welcome on our arrival, the young Romanian lady who dealt with our party was excellent, good value for money, spotlessly clean rooms, and very close to the sites, really enjoyed my stay. We were on the main street which was a bit noisy but once shutters shut cant say I noticed, excellent café next door for breakfast

The value for money is probably very good: Very central location, extremely close to metro, lovely staff, very helpful. There is no breakfast, but there are many affordable places nearby, some of them in the same building. There were some cons: Very noisy. Thin walls. Noisy street. We were placed in front of reception, so it was hard to sleep....

We have just stayed here for 4 nights. The staff were so friendly and helpful, in particular Chris. The hostal was just a 5 minute walk from the Gran Via main street in Madrid, and a 15 minute walk from places like Plaza Mayor and the Palace. Also, there was a Metro stop just yards from the hostel. There are...

The hostal was nice, clean and quiet that we had indeed a sound sleep after a tiring but enjoyable tour of Madrid. The staff especially Kristoffer Doctolero was very helpful and nice too. Our short visit to Madrid was even greater because of this hostal. It is just walking distance from the city center... and affordable. I recommend this.

My husband and I were very satisfied with the room, the view and the breakfast. The location couldn't be better, you can get to Piazza del Sol by foot (5 minutes walking). The only thing we found "bad" was English that the dorman tried to speak/ speaks there, but, at least, he was trying to ;-)

Had three nights here in July 2015 and loved it. Such a cute, charming, quaint little hotel. The room, whilst cosy, was clean, tidy and nicely designed. The bathroom was modern and clean. Free wifi was fast and reliable. The two receptionists we spoke with over our stay could not have been any more helpful or friendly. The breakfast at...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
