I spent 3 nights in this hotel last week, it was a suprise arranged by my husband. I loved both Barcelona & Hotel 1898 & would highly recommend both. The rooms are lovely, very clean, attractive & comfortable. The bathroom is super too, well stocked with quality products, clean & modern. Lovely bath & nice strong shower. Bathrobes & slippers...

This was our third stay in this lovely hotel, and we would not think of staying anywhere else in Barcelona. The location is excellent, even for those of us who are not terribly fond of the Ramblas. We were assigned a room right over the Bar Lobo, and it was very noisy on a Sunday afternoon. There was no problem...

The rooms are very comfortable, enough space, clean and modern, although from outside you could think it is an old hotel. A little noisy if you have an external rooms, I recommend asking for a room inside.

1898 is a wonderful hotel. We enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect being right in the heart of Barcelona. There is a beautiful spa downstairs and a roof top bar and pool. The hotel common areas and our room were spotless. It is one of the cleanest hotels that we have even encountered. The reception staff was wonderful, meeting...

Stayed for three nights in late May on a pre-cruise vacation. Hotel location can't be beat-close to everything and within walking distance to various transportation options Metro, bus, rent-a-bike, Las Ramblas, restaurants, full grocery store around the corner, etc. Check-in was the only complaint. Early check-in can be challenging. James, the attendant at the front desk, did his best to...

Firstly, it is imperative that I mention how fantastic the location of this hotel is. It's right on Las Ramblas, a busy market-esque centre, and a few hundred metres in any direction takes you to into the heart of Barcelona. There were many options concerning transport, the metro less than five minutes walk away, bus stops and taxi points close...

This hotel has so much to recommend it--starting with a location that is close to the old city, and within easy walking distance of the seaport, as well as the more modern parts of the city. The staff is extremely helpful (everyone speaks several languages--which is important since folks from all over Europe as well as the USA were there...

Second time at H1898. Great location on La Rambla. Fantastic rooftop bar with pool. Great cabanas, sofas, bar stools to catch some rays or watch the night time sky. The hotel is chic and very well done with hard wood floors. I traveled alone this time so I had a smaller room so that was ok. It had everything I...

My daughter and I spent 2 nights, one before and one after a bike trip to the Pyrenees and Costa Brava. We both thought the hotel was outstanding. Nice room that was very quiet being so close to Las Ramblas. Staff was efficient and very courteous. Short walk down street to incredible Mercat market. I would stay there again for...

This hotel is superbly situated directly on Las Ramblas, just 2 minutes walk from Paza de Catalunya, where all the tour buses and hop on off buses operate from. In addition to eat in the evening we were just a short stroll to the many resaurants of the old town, and the port was a 10 minute stroll. Breakfast was definitely...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
