Hotel 1898 is a beautiful hotel. We stayed at the hotel last March and couldn't have picked a better residence. The bar downstairs is scheek, with good service and wine menu. The food was also fantastic when we visited the restaurant one lunchtime. As we were on business we had secured a meeting room on the first floor, and this...

I stayed here a couple of times whilst viewing properties for a local company apartment. The hotel isn't tired in any way. The staff were solid with good recommendations, the internet worked well and was fast, the location was "central" if you are looking to be on the Ramblas (which as a first time visitor, I can see you might...

We have been hoping to visit Barcelona for years and this hotel always looked the place to stay; a beautiful mix of modern and traditional style, all the facilities you could wish for and a central city location. So it's fair to say expectations were sky high when we finally had a week in Barcelona in January. I'm pleased to...

My family visited Barcelona for 4 days in August 2012. We loved every minute of staying at Hotel 1898 and we highly recommend. Beautifully appointed rooms. We had an interior room with no view, but that was ok, because gave us some quite time. Lobby is gorgeous! The staff and service was superior and couldn't ask for a better LOCATION!...

We stayed in room 506. Not much of a view, but probably the quietest area of the hotel. That said, there is a church right next door with bells that start at 8am. We slept with our window open the first night but had to reconsider after the early wake-up call. The room was beautiful, comfy bed, great service from...

Dear Guest, First at all thank you for taking you time and sharing with us a great opinion about your experience with us on TA! We kindly inform you that we are surrounded by historical buildings, since we are right on las Ramblas, touching the Gothic quarter and sometimes we could be exposed to external factors that unfortunately we cannot...

My husband and I visited Barcelona in early September and stayed at H1898. The rooms were clean and tidy and we have a great view overlooking La Rambla. The hotel staff were very courteous and helpful. Our favourite part of our stay at La Rambla was the roof top terrace. Fully equipped with a pool, bar and tapas at the...

Had an absolutely fantastic weekend at the Hotel 1898. The hotel and interior decor are luxurious, and even though we had the cheapest room, it was not too small and supplied everything needed - TV, free internet, tea / coffee making, and a lovely bathroom. Also very cool room lighting where you choose from pre-set levels i.e. 'relax' or 'reading'....

Excellent 3 night stay in this well presented/non pretentious hotel. Fantastic building! Friendly and helpful staff. Well laid out, comfortable rooms, very comfy huge bed and big bathroom, lovely touches including bathrobes, slippers, toiletries, hot drink facilities. Room service was not extortionate and the lobby, bar and lounge areas were inviting. Fab roof terrace with heated outdoor pool. Given location,...

Lovely hotel. But the speed of the wifi internet in the rooms, and also in the business centre, is below the minimum standard required in the modern world! The best I could get was 1.2Mb/s. If you need internet access, then I suggest you get a pre-paid data card and use the 3G network Peter

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
