I was in Barcelona from 8 to 11 February 2024 and I chose this hotel for its central location so as to be able to reach the main attractions on foot. We had a great time, 5-star facility with obsessive attention to the customer, clean rooms, incredible breakfast with top quality products, those who like savory breakfasts will not be disappointed by the offer but the best thing is the cleanliness and courtesy of the staff. ..everything... able to put you at ease and available to recommend itineraries and places to eat. In the evening there are always some activities proposed by the structure, very often live music and aperitifs on the terrace. We didn't use all the hotel services but returning to the room between one thing and another was nice to enjoy the structure. We had several free drinks for free, we returned tired in the afternoon to the facility and after a while they asked us if we had a great drink to recharge, everything was free even water in the room every day, toothbrushes, toothpaste and quality toiletries, not the usual things from poor hotels. Well done, if I return to Barcelona I will return to you, an unforgettable stay!

Hotel's Favourite
Unbelievable experience in the best possible way! From the moment we entered, we felt an aura of incredible history and rich culture: from the furniture to the small to the colors, it was beautiful. The rooms were beautiful with views and wonderfully furnished, so none of my family has any complaints about them. Everything in the hotel felt very high end and luxurious. With posh amenities like the mini bar with drinks and food throughout the rooms and hotel, to the numerous lounges and pools both indoor and outdoor that incorporate the nature, history, and qualities of Barcelona at its finest, the hotel truly felt like a resort. The Tea Time was just as superb as the people who served it. The staff was not also very amiable and accommodating, but each went above and beyond to ensure the quality of our stay. The breakfast should also be mentioned. If you are to believe that this is simply a continental breakfast, you would be mistaken, as it is a full on feast with incredible quantities of delicious food and lush furnishings around the room. The service here never quavered either: Vanessa, Tiontse, Ana, and Ewas were all incredible and so friendly. The location could not have been more central either! In the middle of La Rambla, a famous avenue in Barcelona, everything is within walking distance, including tours, shopping, culture, and history. Our stay at this wonderful hotel ended far too quickly, and before we knew it, we were gone from one of Barcelona’s finest offerings. Our stay was the epitome of a fantastic vacation, and we could not have asked for a better, more hospitable stay.

We received the very best service in the most beautiful hotel in the centre of Barcelona, on La Rambla. It’s ideally situated, just a few minutes walk from Placa Catalunya which is right in the middle of everything - yet as soon as you enter, you know this is a calm and sophisticated oasis in all the activity outside. Lighting is low throughout the hotel and there is a gorgeous scent throughout (I forgot to ask about that!). There is a welcoming bar on the ground floor and the most heavenly Spa with a superb swimming pool, sauna and treatment rooms in the lower ground floor. Irina is an amazing masseuse.
Our room on the 5th floor was unique. It was enormous, the bed was dreamy, very well maintained, decorated in their trademark colonial style and so quiet. We were celebrating so we pushed the boat out and we were fortunate enough to have our very own sizeable cooling jacuzzi pool on our enormous private terrace along with sumptuous sunbeds, a dining table for 6 or 8 and seating for entertaining a fair number of friends, had we wanted to.
The breakfasts in the first floor dining room were superb with eggs made to order and warm and welcoming staff (thank you so much Ana, Sebas and Paula). Even the most wonderful hotel is nothing without helpful and knowledgeable staff. We were so impressed with the team at H1898 - nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very special indeed.
Without hesitation, we recommend H1898, a wonderful hotel that has set its own high standards of comfort and quiet professionalism which other hotels will struggle to emulate.

We stayed 10 nights at hotel 1898 in a Colonial suite with its own pool and we give it 5 stars. The king bed was amazingly comfortable. It was also extremely quiet.
The hotel location on the La Rambla is perfect being steps away from a supermarket and 2 blocks away from the amazing bocateria market that you must experience first hand. Restaurants within a 3 to 5 minute walk from the hotel are plentiful.
The staff were very friendly and very responsive to our request. We really enjoyed the roof top restaurant and bar. The manager and his staff were the best.
We have already booked our next trip which is scheduled for June of 2025 and we are already counting the days...

We recently stayed here as part of a short 2 night stay in Barcelona having previously visited the rooftop terrace with friends many years ago.
The hotel is incredibly well located at the heart of Las Ramblas but is entered via a side street which felt very safe. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and feels like a very luxurious experience particularly given the reasonable price.
We arrived very early (8.30 am) after disembarking a cruise and we were able to leave our luggage so we could explore Barcelona at our leisure. Check in was very straightforward and concierge took our cases to our room for us which was much appreciated.
Our standard room was on the smaller side but given we were staying in Barcelona, we didn't spend much time in the room and found it to be perfect for our needs. The were some slight signs of wear and tear but overall the room was beautifully decorated and well appointed. It felt very luxurious and the bed was one of the most comfortable hotels beds we have slept on.
We spent a lot of time at Terrace La Isabella which is a beautiful peaceful haven in the city to swim and relax with a drink. It is worth booking this hotel just for the rooftop terrace.
On our first day we decided to have lunch on the terrace. I had a burger and my partner had chicken skewers. The burger was very average (considering it cost £20) and unfortunately some of the chicken in the skewers was raw. The staff took the cost of the chicken of our bill and mentioned this straight to the kitchen staff but this did put us off the food. We did pluck up the courage to try some other dishes for lunch the following day and they were delicious so the chicken just seemed to be an unfortunate incident.
Breakfast was delicious with allergens clearly marked which is very helpful. My only concern was that almonds were placed on the cheese plates for decoration meaning I couldn't have any cheese. Given the care taken to mark the allergens, this seemed like a mistake.
Reception gave us recommendations for dinner. We chose 2 restaurants from the list and both meals were delicious. Taxis are available just outside the hotel for easy travel. Our room had french doors onto a courtyard we even with those closed we could still hear noise from Las Ramblas and found the corridor to be quite noisey. Nothing significant but I would take ear plugs just in case!
Overall, a very nice stay in a beautiful hotel and a hotel we would certainly return to.

We’re delighted that you chose to return to our hotel after your previous visit to our rooftop terrace, and it’s wonderful to hear that you had a positive experience overall. It’s also great to know that you appreciated our decor and the luxurious ambiance we strive to create for our guests. Your feedback regarding the meal at La Isabella and the almonds on the cheese plates is also valuable, and we will certainly review our breakfast setup to ensure such oversights are avoided in the future. Great hotel - great location - excellent breakfast buffet - nice rooms.
The location is simply great, practically right next to a central transport hub, you can get almost anywhere quickly and easily using public transport.
The breakfast buffet was really great, there was actually nothing I missed.
Even the standard rooms are very good and spacious and above all face the courtyard and are therefore pleasantly quiet - the only downside was that you couldn't tilt the windows at night.
The hotel also has a 12x5 pool in the basement that is pleasantly heated. A dry sauna and a steam sauna. There was also a downside here, however, as you had to register for this area and your stay was limited to 30 minutes - in other words, that was not enough time for 2 proper sauna sessions, but at least it was there.
All in all, the hotel can be highly recommended if you value a sauna area, which was the case with us.

When we arrived early for our 3pm check in, reception told us our room was already available. It was available, it just wasn’t our room. It was tiny, not the classic room with interior patio we’d paid for. And we hadn’t asked for twin beds either. Our first attempt to resolve this failed but after I pushed harder we were moved that day to a more suitable room. I took exception to being told it was because we’d asked for early check-in, we hadn’t. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary in a few days time ahead of a cruise. We were in no hurry, From conversations in the lobby area, it’s apparent we weren’t the first that day to be given that room or to be unhappy with their allocated room and then be moved.
Others have remarked on the (lack of) hot water in the bedrooms. We did report that too and the maintenance team just ran our shower and sink taps on full for several minutes before the hot water came through. So, yes there was hot water but as I suggested to Reception at check out, they might like to post a note in the rooms so guests know it can take quite a while for the water to warm up. It first appears that there is no hot water, a note would fend off calls and visits down to Reception.
The hotel is almost entirely accessible for wheelchair users. The lifts are very small which makes it a little difficult with luggage but it’s an old building. The breakfast room is divided into two sections by a few steps and unfortunately the breads and pastries were on the upper level and out of reach for wheelchair users to see and select without help (I don’t doubt staff there would have been more than happy to help). Wheelchair access to the rooftop bar is by lift and the bar itself is reachable by wheeling the perimeter, which I did, but it did mean disturbing a private party. Table service is provided though. The pool involves steps up so I didn’t attempt i.
I’m giving it three stars, not four because it is a 4* hotel and if nothing else we’d have expected a little more consideration from the front desk when we first raised the issue of room allocation. I shouldn’t have had to force the issue, that was unnecessary. We didn’t insist on an accessible room as was argued and in any case that first room was no more accessible and certainly a lot smaller and gloomier (it had just a tall narrow window, no patio door). Again it wasn’t what we paid for.
On the plus side it’s a beautiful building, the lobby area is very grand, the breakfast itself is plentiful and the (breakfast) staff are very helpful. When we made it to the right room, we had a comfortable sleep both nights, save for the loud music coming from the rooftop bar. But hey, it’s summer, people want to have a good time.

Our second stay here was even better than our first. The classy lobby smells incredible and all staff are unfailing polite and considerate. My wife’s birthday was made even better with a kind upgrade and some room decoration. The location couldn’t be better - on the Ramblas, ten minutes walk from the airport bus, half an hour to the beach, etc.

The staff were excellent and very thoughtful. One day when we came back to the room we interrupted the cleaners, who quickly finished up but came back again later the same day to see if we wanted any further cleaning done. The staff provided free drinks to the room a couple of times (a choice of three cocktails) which was a lovely surprise, and gave us a free bottle of cava on our final night to thank us for staying. These small thoughtful details were the cherry on top of a wonderful stay. The spa facilities are fantastic and the room very comfortable, spacious and clean. It was difficult to find room to sit on the roof terrace, particularly around the pool, but this is to be expected during the busy summer period and I believe you can book a table in advance. The location of the hotel is ideal, with many of Barcelona's best spots in easy walking distance.

Sadly, the pools and sauna were closed due to the drought. I think this was for the whole of Catalunya when we were there mid-February.
We stayed in December and have to see the double bed was one of the largest we have ever stayed in!
