Hotel Indigo Barcelona - Plaza Catalunya garners mixed reactions, with its prime location often celebrated for enabling easy exploration of the city. While some guests commend the cleanliness and the spacious rooms, others are dissatisfied with the maintenance and noise levels. The service quality has been unpredictable, with compliments on staff friendliness contrasting with complaints about organizational issues. Amenities generally please visitors, but some have noted shortcomings in pool size and room amenities. The hotel's value is debated, as reasonable rates are sometimes marred by unexpected fees and inconsistent experiences.

We stayed at the Indigo - Plaza Catalunya for a WW company meeting gathering 38 people from around the world for a week. I warmly recommend.
Thanks to the professionalism and the flexibility of the staff (the event organizer, Charlène, the front desk, kitchen and service teams), the quality of the accommodation, the meeting room and the equipment supplied the technical part of the seminar has been very well rated by all the participants. Special mention for the timely and well organized lunches and breaks enabling effective meetings.
The facility was very well prepared by the hotel's staff. We had a number of value add proposals helping in making decisions on some of the key elements (meeting places, lunches, welcome cocktail)
The hotel is very well located, at short distance from major locations in Barcelona (Sagrada Familia, Gothic quarter, Plaza de Catalunya...) providing options for the international visitors to get a good view of the city and some of its main sites.
Great thanks to the Hotel team!

The Hotel Indigo is a nice boutique property in Eixample with easy access to both the Old City and La Gracia. You're also steps from Casa Mila and Casa Battlo, two of the popular Gaudi structures in the area. The location and value (I paid $107 USD for one night in the off-season) were the selling points.

I was well received as an IHG member and received an upgrade to a deluxe room. Rooms are small and cozy, but I really liked the bright colors and aesthetic. The in-room amenities are also excellent, as the water, coffee, tea, and juice are all complimentary. I appreciated that the in-room coffee was a machine and not instant.

I had a drink in the evening at the bar, but with a limited time in Barcelona, I opted to try a different spot instead of the DOQ restaurant for either breakfast or dinner. Overall, it was an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

When we arrived it was hard to tell there was a hotel behind the door but don’t be fooled, although it’s not a big hotel it has everything you need such as 2 pools, a bar, restaurant and lounge/ waiting area and a nice outdoor patio area in the courtyard. The check in staff are very friendly and helpful and if you have a IHG membership you will get a late checkout. The rooms are really spacious, modern and have everything you need including water and fruit juices in the fridge. The main reason I would recommend staying here though is the location, it’s in a nice area close to the up market shops and a short walk from the ramblas making this an affordable and convenient clean hotel to stay in for the perfect trip to Barcelona.

This hotel is very clean and comfortable. Great sized room, comfortable bed and great shower room. Plenty of storage space. Good location, less than 10 mins walk to old town and 5 mins walk from Plaza Catalunya where the buses to and from airport arrive into. Breakfast was good; self service, plenty of choice for continental and there is also some hot options. Machine for coffee but it was nice coffee.
There is a pool but it didn’t open until 11am when I was there in July so if you have any plans to swim in the mornings you should note this. I was very happy with my stay except for one thing…when we checked in at 9am I was told my room wasn’t ready and we would have to wait until 2.30pm for checkin. I had no problem with that, it was what I expected since I was arriving at the hotel so early. However, the receptionist then said that they had a room which was cleaned and available if I paid 30 euros. Bearing in mind that this Hotel was in the region of £200 per night, this annoyed me. Am I living in the past? I thought the deal was that if there was a room ready you would be given the room. For your comfort and for the hotel’s convenience too, as it means they don’t need to check you in later and retrieve luggage. If the room is ready surely there is no inconvenience for the hotel to give you the room early. I can understand a charge for late checkout as the hotel has the inconvenience of delaying cleaning the room perhaps at a cost of retaining housekeeping on duty.
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would recommend because of location and facilities but I won’t stay there again because the check in policy is not providing good customer service.

The hotel is in a superb location. If arriving via the Airport bus it is less than 5 minutes walk. The hotel has poor signage so do a search of the location as it is easy to walk past.
As a loyal member of the IHG loyalty programme, I found the welcome somewhat underwhelming. Wed id receive a room upgrade but no sign of any other welcome amenity.

Rooms are well maintained and cleaned thoroughly.

The reception staff are a hit or a miss. They have very little information on local events and when asked how they could assist with a small birthday celebration for a member of our party, they had no idea or suggestion as to providing a cake.

The breakfast is basic. whilst mask wearing is practiced around the hotel, the restaurant staff permit guests to help themselves to the buffet without masks on. Avoid the croissants which taste stale. Food is not restocked regularly as staff are not attentive. The breakfast could be so muchbetter. There is no managerial supervision as 1 hour of training could turn breakfast around. For example, the breakfast could be explained, dirty plates could be cleared and the buffet kept fully stocked.

The hotel can not hide behind Covid restrictions and advertise itself as a 4 star hotel. The Bar/ Restaurant is closed and when looking in you see large quantities of towels stored. Other, lesser hotels offer lunch time/ evening bar/ restaurant service but this Hotel seems to be being run as a bed and breakfast with a skeleton staff. This does not reflect the Indigo Brand created by IHG.

I don't usually write reviews cause everything is usually okay at least but I had to create an account to write one after my short stay in this hotel.
Had to pay over 200 Euros per day for a single room so I expected something good at least but it looked like a cheap 1-star hostel. What I got was a very small room next to the lift, seemed it was a closet, with a small window with a view of a wall and no sunlight or whatever. They told me they were fully booked so I didn't ask for a change.

The room was mostly clean, at least until I found an used rubber inside the bathroom's trash can.
The walls are paper thin, you can hear everything from the next rooms and the corridor, which is very loud especially in the early morning when the cleaning staff cames in and even in the middle of the night they make a huge noise they make huge noise taking some carts out of the lift, they don't even respect people's sleep.

Even the shampoo and body lotion fell cheap as they are both the same, they smell and taste the same and am certain it's not the brand they say it is cause I used that brand and it doesn't feel the same.

The hotel needs a full renovation, the walls and floor look worn out and dirty. The elevators need a check up, they are the slowest I've ever been and don't fell safe, they are always shaking while going up and down.

The breakfast was a surprise, lots of things to choose and it looked so good but they are low quality and the hot food is either undercooked or almost burned.

Swimming pool was closed due to winter but it is smaller than what it looks in the pictures.

The staff was okay except for the manager, a black haired middle aged man with beard, he might be the rudest person I've ever seen, saw him arguing with some staff and they looked so stressful and sad I felt sorry for them.

I wanna add I'm not sure if there's someone working in the front desk during the night, I went down a couple of times and there was no one there, not even security at the main door.

I have been in many hotels in this city and wanted to try something new that looked good from the outside, but I regret going here and never coming back. There are better places, I've ever been in 2-star hotel better than this.

Dear avakade84, Thank you for your recent stay and for sharing your feedback. I would like to express how sorry we are for not fully meeting the expectations, I would have been very happy to assist you personally while at the hotel. I would have tried to sort out all the inconveniences right away. Regarding the room assignment, we are sorry that our front desk team was unable to upgrade the room originally booked by you, we have a variety kind of rooms for all guest preferences. I am sure our rooms with private terrace and balcony would have been more suitable for you. As per our room amenities, kindly know that we have a long-term partnership with Rituals® Brand, we are truly sorry they were not of your liking; however, every room has three different essences: Body gel, shampoo and conditioner; along with hand wash and body lotion for your convenience. On the other hand, we would like to inform that we are upgrading all our facilities and services to keep up the standard given by IHG. Also, we would like to announce that due to the good weather, our outdoor swimming pool is open! Nevertheless, we work very hard and strive to be the best Hotel Indigo around. We also strive to offer a seamless and relaxing stay and I'm sorry to learn that it didn't happen. We take feedback seriously and would like to get more info to share this with the relevant teams. Your loyalty is important to us and we hope you choose IHG still on your future travels. Kindly contact us directly to manage your next reservations Regards Raúl G Hotel indigo Barcelona Team

The staff at the hotel tried to downgrade me and my family despite having reservations set months in advance. They did this under false pretenses, and what made it even more absurd is that I have platinum elite status with IHG, which usually is supposed to be associated with an upgrade, not the other way around. They then offered to comp our breakfast for the 3 days that we stayed there (but upon check out they said it is not possible to comp our breakfast). So we did pay out of our pocket for breakfast which was mediocre at best (food wise), but that was not it. The food at the buffet was running out and noone replenished it until we went and hunted an elusive staff member and pointed toward the empty trays. Many of the dishes and glasses set in the restaurants were dirty and not washed. There were bottles of Cava strategically placed on the buffet but when asked about it we were told we can't have any since it was "just a decoration" but at the same time we got 3 drink vouchers ar checking which were supposed to be used exactly for this kind of drink... The tables were dirty in the morning and the staff was just starting to clean them around 8 am as people were already sitting down (this is basic stuff that should be done the night before or before the buffet open). The sinks in the rooms were dirty as well and it did not seem like they had been cleaned between visitors. Separately, the elevator was broken during the majority of our stay. I can understand that this can happen to any hotel, but it was just augmented by everything else we had to deal with. This 3 night stay was the last of a 10 day trip throughout Spain, where we stayed at 4-5 hotels and hotel Indigo was by far the most terrible experience we had. Would strongly recommend you look elsewhere for your stay.

Dear AngelD, It's my pleasure to host one of our IHG® One Rewards members. We appreciate you choosing Hotel Indigo Barcelona for your lodging needs and sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your stay was not up to our standard. Despite our efforts to always provide with upgrade to our guest, and being always subject to availability, sometimes this is not possible due to high occupancy dates. We would like to apologize for our breakfast not being of your liking, we do work really hard to keep improving daily; we have added several Iberian products to our buffet as well as many different kinds of sliced fresh fruit. I am happy to see that you enjoyed our buffet at a very reduced rate of €12/day! I believe our front desk team tried to apologize for the inconveniences. Despite the setbacks mentioned in your review, I hope you find your way back to us should your travels bring you again to the area for a chance to make your stay better than the last. We have well noted all your comments and we will use them to improve. Regards Raul G Hotel indigo Barcelona Team

This is a hard review to write as this hotel could have been so good and some of my criticism is beyond their control. But overall I've checked out this morning feeling very disappointed.
I've stayed in Indigo's before and like the vibe and quality. I've also been a Holiday Inn member for 20 years as I like their brand and rewards.
The hotel is very well situated and we could get around on foot in all directions.
Our first disappointment was on arrival. I'd booked using the IHG app and selected a Deluxe Double with Terrace. But when I checked in I was told I'd been upgraded to an Executive room which was a nice touch. However on going to the new room I found it overlooking the noisy main road without a terrace. So I went back to Reception to explain that I wanted a room with a terrace as booked. I showed them the pictures in the app and they told me the pictures I'd seen were of a suite! To be fair, the receptionist went to chat to his manager and we were offered such a suite at the same price I'd paid (although it appears to be about 30 euros more per night). This room was fantastic and did have a lovely big terrace overlooking the rooves and the hotel's pool area 6 floors below.
Breakfast was a very good continental one with huge choice in a nice setting.
Our second disappointment is that there is no room service in the hotel. It's 4 star so should be there. At the time I checked in the app said this was available, although I note today as I leave that it has been removed.
Our third disappointment, was the hotel has also stopped offering its restaurant service for lunch and dinner.
I suspect that both the room service and restaurant issues are connected to staffing and the Pandemic. But there was no warning about this on booking (admittedly a few months ago), nor since, except for some vague wording on the app and in email about services may be affected. There was no apology at the hotel and no refund of part of the cost of the stay. I paid 300 euro a night. For this I expect, despite the difficulties, 4 star levels not a B&B. If the room upgrade hadn't happened I'd have left the hotel and gone somewhere else as there are many equivalent hotels are available in the same location.
So, in summary, I'd not currently recommend this hotel and, should I stay in Barcelona again, I'd go elsewhere. I'll also definitely think twice before using IHG at this current time.

Dear ExeterChris, Thank you for choosing our hotel and for taking the time to give us feedback about your experience. We greatly appreciate your comments about our large rooms on the top floor with private terrace with sunbeds and Balinese beds where you can sunbathe in sunny Barcelona. Also, we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our central location closed to public transportation and sightseeing spots and our daily breakfast buffet! Regarding our F&B services, we would like to explain that due to the last Covid restrictions, we decided to limit our F&B services for some time until we were able to provide a safe and proper service to ensure our guests satisfaction and high levels of service. On the other hand, we are really happy to announce that our Indigo cocktail Snack&Bar has reopened its doors! All our guest are more than welcome to enjoy and relax at our Bar area. We greatly appreciate your opinion, it helps us to improve our levels of service. We hope to see you soon again at Hotel Indigo Barcelona! Raúl González Hotel Indigo Barcelona Team

I've not stayed at a Hotel Indigo property previously so wasn't really sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at not only the design of the property but also the facilities offered, especially considering the room rate

The hotel is well located for both the major tourist attractions in Barcelona and also its central location means main shopping areas like La Rambla and El Corte Ingles are within just a few minutes walk.

Room was great, the bathroom whilst somewhat narrow had a great walk-in monsoon shower (with separate hand shower), good toiletries, good towels. Tea and coffee in room (including Nespresso machine). Comfortable bed.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would certainly look at other Indigo properties for future trips!

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

There is a train station at the airport - it's not attached directly to the terminal so it's a bit of a walk. I think it's about a 20 minute train journey into the city and the nearest station to the hotel is Passeig de Gracia which is a leisurely 10 minute walk to the hotel
