We stayed two nights here and, overall, were very pleased with the place. It is very central, just a couple of minutes from Placa Catalunya (where the airport bus dropped us off) and near La Ramblas and many other attractions. The rooms are basic, no TV or tea/coffee facilities (the latter quite the norm in Spain for some reason, so...

Stayed for a few nights in May 2012. Its in an excellent location at the top of the Rambla. Hotel was nicely themed in decoration - rooms are small and clean. No TV or much by way of toiletries. I had to ask for hair dryer and extra shampoo sachet. Staff were friendly enough but this was more like a...

Just back from a three night stay in the city and this was my first time in a hosteria rather than hotel. We had two of the 2nd floor rooms at the back of the building and lack of light was totally irrelevant - out and about all day and evening too: both the air conditioning and ceiling fan worked...

The property is located on a little side street just off the Ramblas, which made accessing public transit (metro and airport transfers) easy. The rooms were just as described on their web site, and the best part of the stay was the helpful staff. I'd stay there again in a minute.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 3-night stay at Hosteria Grau. The location is ideal--felt like an off-the-path urban neighborhood, but in fact was a very short walk from all the sites. Groceries, a world class market and a quiet, sweet plaza were also only moments away. The reception desk is open 24-hours and the staff very helpful and friendly. While my...

We stayed at Hosteria Grau for three nights in early April, 2012. It was a cozy hotel with friendly service. We were in an apartment room that included two double beds and a single bed in one room and a couch with table and four chairs in the other. The rooms were very clean, simply furnished. In the "kitchen area"...

We stayed for one night (no further nights were available unfortunately) and were pleased at the standard of accomodation at such a reasonable price. Our room was spacious and two balconies overlooked the interesting streets of the old city. We came by car and it was hard to find, but we were able to unload right at the front door....

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
