We stayed here for a short overnight visit to Barcelona prior to an early flight to the UK the next day. The location of this hotel is great on Avda Paral but not too far up that it’s too far to walk to the Marina, Las Ramblas and the beach etc. The hotel itself was of a very high standard...

We chose this hotel because of its location and we were happy with our choice as you can easily get to anywhere you want to in Barcelona. It's about a 10 minute walk to La Rambla, but there are also a few bars and restaurants along the street. We went to Los Cachitos on our last night in Barcelona (which...

This hotel can't be recommended. Staff at the front desk is very cold and not friendly at all. Room was clean upon arrival. However housekeeping couldn't maintain this during our stay. We had to ask for toilet paper since housekeeping didn't replenish it. A no-go for a 4 star $$$ hotel. Shower= small bathtubs. Our room (223) didn't have a...

This is a good hotel, although not a deal breaker the staff were all a bit grumpy! Breakfast was nice but a bit repetitive, the same thing every day which got boring! The rooms are very comfortable and clean, however there is only 1 mirror which is in the bathroom and steams up, so after you've had a shower and...

The rooms are clean, and service works fine. You've got comfortable walking distance to things from here, and we're not out late so we haven't noticed the neighborhood feeling dodgy or anything. But I wouldn't call the pond on the roof a "pool", and the breakfast would be fine for a three star hotel. Fine, not great. You've got a...

The lobby, guest rooms, front desk and bell staff were all very nice. Rooftop terrace is an added bonus with lounge chairs, small pool, and a few pieces of exercise equipment. Just steps away from a metro station and close enough to walk with wheeled luggage to the cruise ship bus stop. Close enough to La Rambla and Gothic Quarter...

We came to Barcelona 3 days prior to our cruise and choose this hotel because of it's location bad reviews. Everything was just right - the location, the service in the hotel, our room was nice, clean & specious. A big plus is also complimentary Wi-Fi service. Very easy to get around the city by walking and by Metro which...

Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were large and clean. Breakfast was pricey but a good selection of items. Pretty close to La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter. Overall, a good value for what we paid.

My wife and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary by spending a few days in Barcelona. I must admit that I wasn't really that excited about going. However, now I wish I hadn't come back! Barcelona is superb! It is only a 2 hour flight from London. We flew Norwegian Airlines - a fairly new airline and pretty good I...

This is our second stay at the Barcelona Universal. The rooms are very nice with a modern flair. There is only a short walk to Las Ramblas or the double-decker city tour bus stops. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet with it's wide selection of choices. The front desk staff was great and really helpful in answering our questions and...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
