Hotel Espana Just steps from the Rambla, a broad, busy pedestrian walkway leading to the ocean. The hotel’s atmosphere is charming The rooms on the small side but surprisingly modern given the Espana’s age. The front desk staff is very personable, knowledgeable and accommodating. Breakfast is included, either from the (limited) buffet selection or to order. The hotel also features...

We stayed for two nights over the weekend. The location was central enough to allow walking all over town, while still off the Rambla to avoid the noise. Rooms are functional and comfortable and the staff was very welcoming. Will definitely return

From the moment we arrived at this hotel, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Their motivation seemed to make us comfortable and to help us enjoy our time in Barcelona. This hotel is wonderfully situated, just one block away from La Rambla. The window insulation was excellent in that it kept all the street noise out of our room....

Terrific location. Close to Las Ramblas - where you want to be & we could walk to the port area. Take the taxi as the entrance is down a side street. Everything is super clean - the rooms, reception area, bathrooms. We stayed in a bigger room with a terrace balcony. The weather was great, so the balcony was great....

We stayed for 2 nights before our cruise. The staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable even though not very big it was quite adequate and the decor was very tasteful. Breakfast was relaxed with a good selection of fruits, breads, cheeses and hot bacon and eggs if you required. The...

Room smaller than expected , shower very mouldy with strong aroma, when this was brought to hotels attention, bathroom was deodorised but certainly not cleaned ( mound not removed, is bleach really that expensive). Plus points excellent central location and staff efficient, pleasant and professional. Rather noisy in room between 9 and 10 am

The hotel is beautiful, and the restaurant is fantastic -- it is the best reason to stay there. (Dinner there is amazing!) My room was clean and I was comfortable there with one exception: no sunlight. In such a sunny city, this was a disappointment. My window looked out on to other windows of the hotel, so I couldn't even...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The hotel's restaurant service is under the management of the chef Martin Berasategui. ... more   less
