The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The hotel's restaurant service is under the management of the chef Martin Berasategui.

El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

This is a lovely hotel in the heart of the Gothic quarter, so very central to everything. The rooms were clean and modern (shower area grouting could be redone) The staff went over and above to help. There is a Michelin star restaurant in the hotel, and not expensive which as

This is located close to Las Ramblas and therefore close to everything, that is why you would stay here. The room we had was very small, and very noisy. The bar on the roof is very pricey with bad service (they did have a dj though)... I would find something that looks and is

The proximity to LaRambla is what drew us to this hotel. Hotel is beautiful, with large courtyard/atrium areas and lots of character. Reception staff were very helpful. The staircase and public space was beautiful with a real Spanish feel about it. The rooms were modern and bed

My brother and I stayed at this hotel for a few days after our bus tour ended. It's just off La Rambla, and has a delightfully quaint atmosphere with great rooms. Not sure exactly how old it is, but each time we returned, I marvelled at the elegant beauty of yesteryear displayed

We stayed on New Year’s Eve. Room was good size and well equipped. Only criticism was the bathroom lavatory door couldn’t open wide. Bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful from check in to check out. The decor in the public rooms is stunning. Both

Hello fellow traveller. Breakfast was approx. AUD$30. It was good, fresh and plentiful. Apparently you can get omelettes too, although you need to ask as they are not displayed.

I don’t recall the precise cost, but I believe breakfast was about 20 euros.

We didn’t travel with small people but I’m sure they will be able to offer a cot. Lovely hotel with friendly, helpful reception! We’ll definitely be back!

As another correspondent says, it is around 15 minutes from the hotel to the main cruise port, depending on traffic. But do check which port your cruise line uses. I know Seabourn moors closer to the city centre. The English spoken in the hotel is excellent and they can call a taxi for you.
