Hotel Colón has garnered praise for its spacious and immaculate rooms that offer captivating views of the cathedral, set within a central location favored for its convenience to attractions and transportation. While the vibrant atmosphere enriched by street music is a highlight for guests, some have been perturbed by noise from both renovations and outdoor performers.
The hotel's amenities and professional service often receive commendations, though there are mentions of service inconsistencies and overpriced offerings that lack value. Overall, the hotel's cleanliness and prime setting stand out as significant positives.

Detailed Reviews
Staying here was a highlight of a month in Europe. We lashed out and booked a room with a balcony and this completed our Barcelona experience as we were able to retreat from the crowds yet still soak up the atmosphere in the plaza in front of the Cathedral.
The room itself was not particularly large, and the bed faced the bathroom basin and bench (plenty of room to spread things out). The toilet and shower were in two separate cubicles to the side of the room. However, overall, the layout worked - in fact my husband thought it was an improvement as he could use the basin while I was in the shower.
The balcony was as big as the room, and so large for a balcony. It had two sun beds, a table and two chairs. From the balcony we could hear the buskers and, standing up, watch the various entertainments in the plaza - these included some amazing acrobats and, one night, a people stacking competition.
Windows were glazed and we heard no outside noise with the door to the balcony shut.
Location was great and we were within easy walking distance of most attractions.
The breakfast offering was really good, with plenty of fresh fruit and yoghurt as well as the usual continental choices.
Finally, the staff, from the doorman up, were unfailingly polite and helpful.
An excellent choice!

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your detailed and enthusiastic review! We're thrilled to hear that your stay with us was a highlight of your month in Europe and that you enjoyed the room with a balcony, which allowed you to soak up the vibrant atmosphere of the plaza in front of the Cathedral. We're glad you could appreciate the local entertainment and buskers from the comfort of your room, while also having a quiet retreat when needed. We're pleased that you found our location convenient for exploring the city's attractions and enjoyed our breakfast offerings. Your kind words about our staff being polite and helpful from the doorman up are very much appreciated. Thank you for choosing Hotel Colón and for recommending us so highly. We decided to book this hotel to extend our cruise vacation by two nights on the back end. First of all we are a family of four, my wife, boys age 9, 12 and myself. We were able to book a corner suite facing the cathedral and the lively street below. Of course this was not a “cheep” room from a monetary standpoint, however it was able to accommodate a family of four with a king size bed in a moderate size bedroom. On the other hand the suite was spacious and fit two rollaway beds in addition to the desk, chaise lounge chair and large sofa. We had four large windows that opened onto a balcony with wonderful views of the cathedral and street below. There were street performances every night that ended promptly at 10PM, what a treat after dinner. The rooftop bar had a small menu and wonderful views. The best tables are reserved for hotel guests while outsiders waited in line at street level and sat at the tables with a limited view. The breakfast buffet was a wonderful way to begin our day, while the restaurant off the lobby had a small but nice menu and sunset drink on the rooftop bar a perfect way to prepare for an evenings dinner. At the end of our stay the hotel shuttle delivered us to the airport without an additional fee (besides tip).
This was a near perfect experience, I would recommend booking this hotel and I’m a little shocked by the negative reviews.

We had an absolutely delightful 4 night stay at Lamaro Hotel at the beginning of January.
From the moment you step inside, it's welcoming. The reception is lovely and bright, we checked in quickly and went up to our room on the 4th floor. The corridors are all carpeted so it's lovely and quiet as was our room, considering it's so centrally loated we didn't hear a thing, our room was on the side of the hotel so that might be why.
The bed linen is excellent quality (we would have liked feather pillows though, but they aren't available), the bed was comfy, and we both had great sleeps throughout our stay. Great shower, lovely toiletries.
You don't often see doormen in hotels these days, but they have them in the Lamaro, all so helpful, even to non guests stopping to ask them questions - in particular Annouar who was always so friendly and welcoming (if anyone is a fan of the Netflix series Virgin River - he looks like Preacher!). He had a smile and a welcome every time we saw him.
Breakfast is very nice with loads of choice all laid out beautufully, and the best hotel toaster ever!
The Rooftop bar is a must - even just to pop up for a quick drink. It's run separately to the hotel, it gets very busy and you can't book, but we found all the staff really helpful and accommodating.
They have an outside terrace bar, although it was a bit too cold when we were there, it must be lovely when it's warm, great for people watching. We love a hotel bar but the one inside was a bit disappointing, it's where you have breakfast and still has a breakfast room feel with little atmosphere. However, you are so well located it's easy to find bars nearby.
All in all, we had a wonderful time, we felt rested, and the sightseeing was easy because of the central location.
I would highly recommend Lamaro, the staff, the facilities, the location are exceptional. We will be back!

Hotel Colon is in a great location. The rooms are spacious and the bed was comfortable.
I was traveling with my 16-year old son so the bathroom and changing situation was weird. The toilet and shower are each in their own small space with doors that don’t go to the ceiling and the glass is frosted. But when someone is in one of those spaces with the light on, you can see in.
You had to work to get some privacy.
The hotel staff was great. The breakfast was great. The location and rooftop area can’t be beat. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Just be mindful about the bathroom setup if you need more privacy than what I described.

Great location in Barcelona. Music and chatter throughout the day adds to the distinct ambiance of the area.
However, the rooms are overpriced, cushions on furniture require a refresh, as does the bathroom. We stayed in a Superior room facing the historic cathedral. I was not impressed with the room, particularly the bathroom [hole around shower faucet, dirty silcone, shower leaked causing puddles in bathroom]. There was also a consistent odor (sewage). Parts of the carpeted stairs are tattered. We will not return to this establishment.

I am compelled to share my deeply disappointing experience at a hotel that failed to disclose ongoing renovations at the time of our check-in. We booked two rooms for a four-night stay from December 28 to January 1, at a considerable cost, and were met with a series of inconveniences and poor customer service.
The relentless noise from the renovation, characterized by heavy drilling and dust, was unbearable from 10 am to 5 pm daily, except on New Year's Eve (Thank god it was a Sunday). The elevator situation added to the frustration, as only one lift was operational and frequently occupied by the public, due to the hotel's decision to open its rooftop. Consequently, we, along with other guests, were forced to use the stairs from our fourth-floor rooms, often struggling with heavy luggage. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the other lift, although not broken, was reserved for renovation purposes.
Despite our efforts to resolve the issue early and secure a refund to avoid complications at checkout, the staff were dismissive and uncooperative. as the staff continuously stated they had no authority to make any decisions or offer compensation in the absence of the manager.
Promises of room changes were made and then inexplicably retracted. Following a strenuous negotiation, we were directed to contact the manager via Booking.com for a partial refund. After another hour liaising with Booking.com, we received confirmation of a 50% refund both verbally and in writing. However, the hotel reneged on this at checkout, offering a mere 5% discount instead. This led us to change our flights , as advised by Booking.com, given the hotel had already taken full payment upon our arrival. We need to sort it out before we leave.
The hotel staff consistently pressured us to accept the inadequate 5% discount, exploiting our limited time. Thankfully, Booking.com intervened, providing the agreed refund out of pocket to us first, which allowed us to leave in time for our rescheduled flight. The receptionist's attitude was consistently unhelpful, and we never saw or spoke to the supposed manager.
This hotel stay was marked by a complete lack of accountability and customer service, significantly impacting not just our comfort but also our travel plans. I strongly advise against staying here. I extend my sincere gratitude to Booking.com's customer service for their invaluable support in this distressing situation.

We had a lovely experience at the Hotel Colon. The rooms were well appointed and everything was very clean. The staff were super friendly and extremely professional. We spent most evenings on the roof top bar with a spectacular view of the Cathedral Barcelona. In the late afternoon and early evening there was a line outside the hotel to get into the rooftop bar, but hotel guests were given preference to get in. On Thursday they have a wine tasting (with a few snacks) for guests, and there was a nice variety of Spanish wines. The manager (James, I think) was so attentive to all the guests, and helped us tremendously with a lost phone. We were within easy walking of the Bouqueria, and it is a foodies paradise. We felt very safe there, just taking normal precautions in a large city. We stayed 3 nights prior to a cruise, and it was about $30 Euros for a taxi to the cruise terminal. Highly recommend.

My wife and I spent 7 nights here 2/16 - 2/23 and it was perfect from start to finish. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly especially Sebastian and Zhor these guys really made our trip that much more enjoyable. The room (510) had perfect views of the cathedral from its two balconies, it was also extremely spacious and up to date. The breakfast was delicious and offered a wide variety, the bread was incredible. The location was perfect we were really close to all of the major sights and there is a taxi stand 30 feet from the front door. There are a ton of excellent restaurants within walking distance and shops too. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Barcelona. Thank you Hotel Colon for a great stay.
