Rooms are surprisingly large and comfortable (I stayed in Room 11 on the ground floor equipped with two single beds) but are a little spartan with wooden flooring and light coloured walls. Sleep quality was good.
The bathroom is large with bath tub, bidet and double sink but no separate shower. The room had no view to speak of overlooking scrub and lawn.
As if often the case in Spain there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room but what is sadly lacking and a pre requisite for a hotel claiming to be five star is an in room safe. That has prevented me from awarding a five star rating and I would have expected a safe in a Marriott property. .
The hotel is some way from the historic centre of Valladolid so maybe not ideal for tourists as there is nothing of interest in the vicinity and you need to order a taxi to go to the city. It was, however, ideal for a business trip or conference.
The gym and small indoor swimming pool were open and breakfast was quite nice albeit with no variation on a daily basis. I ate one night in the restaurant which was very good and good value for money.
Staff throughout the stay were charming and spoke enough English for overseas travellers and I would certainly stay again..
The rooms are spacious and so are the bathrooms but the first room we were offered had a bad odor so we changed to another room and this one had a bad smell as well, although not as bad as the first one. It smelled like sewage but the smell did not came from the bathrooms. Strange.
The rooms are dark, the public areas are dark, everything is dark. The only bright spot is their service;the staff is very helpful and pleasant.
I’ll start with the room .
1. So hot that the air conditioning , not working so couldn’t reduce the temperature
2. The shower gel dispenser was empty
3. TV wouldn’t work
4. Wallpaper coming off all around the room
5. Bed uncomfortable and creaky any movement by one woke the other.
Restruant
1. Service for drinks was really poor both before and during the meal
2. Couldn’t provide cocktails as per menu
3. Restruant not available due to a function the following day so not what we expected .
4. Waited 45 mins for dinner plates to be removed and left in the end as we were not asked if we required a dessert .
5. Understaffed hence lack of attention .
6. Breakfast , we ordered eggs Benedict and when they arrived both were stone cold and inedible .
7. The buffet bar also had cold dry sandwiches on offer , if you dared that is .
So all in all not a good representation for a Marriot hotel
