Boarding school with fingerpointing nuns. Wait in line, do this dont do that... This must have been a glorious hotel 45 years ago... unfortunately the staff is still the same, refurbishment was not necessary according to their standards... then one ends up in and old hotel where its staff still thinks they work for a world renowned hotel. Old rooms, okay bathrooms, reception is slow and poor English is understood/spoken. Temperature checks at breakfast only for foreigners ( as if...). Plenty of unused space for breakfast on their terrace ( corona safer, but too far to clear the tables for those demotivated waiters). Wifi access canceled on day of departure !?! No water heater in the room. About time they go and take a look how things are done elsewhere ( even in corona times that is..) The best thing is its location but then again very pricy for just the location.

The place has a great location, clean rooms and a wonderfull view. Great you think but... the breakfast buffet is still self-service, when you’ve got questions they are not that friendly or helpfull, they only provide 10 chairs on the beach for the whole hotel (they claim it’s due to corona but everybody else has a whole lot more), there is a restaurant but they only have one menu each day, they have a parkinglot but it’s quite small and when you ask what to do when it’s full, they just answer... euhm... So not bad but considering the price and the reviews I expected it to be a whole lot better.

We would like to start our review by saying that although it relates to February, 2020, out of respect for the gravity of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have delayed posting till now. My husband and I stayed at the Reine Isabel Hotel from 18th February for 7 nights. First impressions were favourable and I will list the positives then negatives. 1) Hotel in general - lovely. 2) Room - comfortable, clean with sufficient amenities. 3) Food - we stayed B & B. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice and of good quality. We ate dinner on 2 occasions - on our first night we did so in the rooftop bar beside the swimming pool. It was "o.k." but overpriced for what we got. However, the buffet dinner in the main restaurant was much better value, there was plenty of choice and it was very nice. 4) Location - perfect, right across from the beach over the promenade. So, given the above we were optimistic that we would have a lovely, well earned holiday. On our second day we went on the Las Palmas bus tour and had a lovely time visiting the old town. When we returned to our room later in the evening, my husband asked me if I had seen his wallet which had put in our room safe. We spent the next hour searching our room - under the beds, pillow/duvet covers off etc. We literally did not leave an inch of our room unsearched - every conceivable place the wallet could have been misplaced although my husband was in no doubt he had put it in the room safe. My husband went down to Reception to report that the wallet had gone missing. The female receptionist was very dismissive and refused point blank to believe that the wallet was missing, indicating that "the hotel chambermaids wouldn't do such a thing" despite my husband not having implied that it had even been stolen. My husband and I then used up a whole morning going to a local Police Station to report the incident - the officer at the station was very indifferent and had made several mistakes when typing up the report which he rectified after being told of the errors by us. Later that day my husband asked a male receptionist at the hotel if there had been any word regarding the missing wallet at which point the staff member laughed in his face - my husband left disgusted after his request to speak to a Manager was treated with contempt. Throughout the rest of our week's stay no Manager was ever available to speak to us and no other staff member approached us. Three days after our return home my husband received a phone call from the hotel indicating that his wallet had been found in our hotel safe!! The same safe we had both emptied and searched too many times to remember!! When my husband asked who had found the wallet, he was told "by a hotel guest". For many reasons this is utterly ridiculous and an insult to our intelligence. 2 weeks later the wallet and the keys therein were returned to us and the following week the cash was returned by bank transfer without an apology. Not to be trusted - completely ruined our holiday.

We arrived back in the UK last night on a repatriation flight arranged by our Tour Operator Jet2.This was our first visit to this wonderful hotel and we were so looking forward to our 12 day holiday in Gran Canaria, which began on 12 March. Unfortunately, two days later the hotel was forced to go into "lockdown" mode because of COVID-19. While we were very disappointed we were also incredibly impressed with the way the hotel managed this unique situation. It must have been very challenging for management and staff but they were true professionals in every way. Though all public areas, i.e. the spa, swimming pool, terrace etc were off limits and closed down our lovely sea view room was impeccably maintained and the food and service in the restaurant was top class. All members of staff are a credit to to the hotel, they unfailingly had a smile and a friendly greeting while working under extremely uncertain and serious conditions. To all at the Reina Isabel, thank you, stay safe and well. One day we will return! J&P Honour.

We stayed for a week in this hotel which is perfectly located for both beach and city. The hotel faces the street but backs onto the beachfront. It’s a 10 minute stroll to the busy station and we used buses all week to travel to and from airport and to explore the island. The promenade is about 3km long with numerous places to eat or have a small beer. Our room was on first floor and clean and comfortable. The room was a good size as was the bathroom which had a large shower enclosure with plenty of hot water. We were at the front of the hotel so balcony overlooked street. We could perhaps have upgraded to a sea view but we didn’t spend much time indoors. Maybe next time we will. There was a television but we didn’t use it. Many of the guests were older, as we are and many seemed to be regular guests, mostly German, British and Scandinavian. There were some younger couples and families. Consequently the hotel was nice and quiet which suited us very well. There was live music in the communal area each evening -saxophone, harp or guitar - until 10pm. Buffet breakfast was excellent with omelette freshly made to your requirements and a huge range of cooked foods, cereals, bread, fruit, meat, cheeses, even a glass of cava. Staff generally were friendly and helpful. We had a couple of issues which were satisfactorily resolved. Rooftop pool was lovely with plenty of loungers and reserving with towels is not allowed 😊 The spa was just heavenly to use. We went every evening to ease our aching joints after walking miles during the day. The hotel has a reserved area on the beach with sun loungers for guests. Bathing is safe due to the breakwater and to the presence of lifeguards. Snorkelling is excellent. If you are looking for a bustling hotel with late night entertainment this is not for you. If you like peace and quiet with no anti-social behaviour then this will suit. We loved being able to sleep undisturbed, enjoy a hearty breakfast and good room facilities and easy access to beach and town. The proximity for swimming and snorkelling was excellent. There were other activities along the beach and we felt safe at all times. There are visible police patrols and although there were individuals trying to sell to us or receive cash they took a polite no as an answer. We hope to return next year, Covid-19 permitting
