The hotel may have an 80s feel to it, but the views have to be the best in the area, absolutely stunning. The rooms are functional but on the small side and with two large adjoining single beds rather than a double. Beakfast, is adequate, Public areas are bright and there is a very pleasant bar. The outdoor pool is not heated so even in July was only for the brave! Free parking is available although have a copy of your reservation to access the barrier. The funicular offers a quick route down the mountain, and the around a 30 minute stroll along the promenade to the old Town, A taxi is around 15 euros each way.

Dear Mark H, Thanks for taking the time to post feedback about your stay at our hotel. It is a pleasure to know that our strategic location helped make your stay enjoyable. We are equally pleased that the spectacular views we have lived up to your expectations and that you enjoyed the cocktails in our bar. However, we understand that from time to time things do need to be replaced and refurbished and so we do carry out maintenance whenever necessary. However, we have duly noted your comment. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on a future occasion. Kindest regards, Hotel Monte Igueldo

We booked a last minute trip & wanted to stay near the old town but there weren’t many rooms left in San Sebastián itself. So we looked at Mercure and debated due to the distance getting to the old town but we are glad we chose to stay here.

We were travelling with a car, so the bonus was free parking at the hotel.
The hotel rooms itself were really nice, with absolutely amazing views - which itself are worth it. Sitting on the balcony in the evenings and mornings were lovely.
We had great weather and the pool was fantastic, sheltered so perfect for catching some rays (although the water was pretty cold).

The fenicular down to beach was easy and quite fun to get, and then it was about a 30 minute walk along the promenade to get to the old town. We would often walk in and then just get taxis back which was easy to do.

We travelled with a 4 month old and the hotel was very accommodating.

The hotel is at a stunning location and many of the rooms offer spectacular views. The rooms are a good size, the pool deck is really nice and the bar and lobby area is very pleasant. Staff at reception are really helpful and will get a taxi for you if you need to get downtown. You can also take the funicular down and walk around the bay to the town centre (about half an hour walk from the bottom of the cable car to the old town). If you have a car places are limited late in the day. The only low point is breakfast. The buffet is not topped up regularly and if you arrive even 45mins from closing many items have run out. Staff at breakfast are surly and do not seem to enjoy their job unlike the staff in the rest of the hotel.

Stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and was not disappointed to return - fabulous views all round and a great location for a stay in San Sebastian. The hotel is well established and public rooms are comfortable, although the air con in the bedroom would only provide warm air!

There is a fabulous outdoor swimming pool with a small bar and seating area that provides drinks and light bites. Waitress was great and very friendly.

There is private parking outside the hotel but taxis are required to visit the city (circa €8) unless you are a seasoned and fit walker.

Had dinner in the restaurant on 2 separate nights - menu is not expansive or cheap but high quality. Service on the second night was not good given there were only 3 other tables occupied, but we sensed the waitress could be new as she became confused with some of the orders which caused delays in serving courses together.

I am an long standing Accor member and this has to be the worst service I have received at any Accor hotel. The hotel, although written to by myself and Accor Customer Service, are still to answer my complaint.
We went to the bar mid afternoon for a drink and hopefully something to eat. The bar food was not available until 7.00 pm. When we went to the bar in the evening it was extremely crowded and there was nowhere to sit. We eventually found a table in the lounge area which was full of glasses and had not been cleaned. I went to the bar to order food and drink and after a very long wait I managed to place an order. I was then asked where I was sitting when I said in the lounge area I was told that I couldn’t eat there. As there were no other tables available I asked what I was supposed to do, I was told by another guest also waiting at the bar that he had had the same problem the previous evening and had eaten in his room. I had to wait at the bar for the food to arrive which took over half an hour. When the food arrived I was told I could not have a tray and was expected to carry two meals and two drinks to my room without a tray.
The restaurant although not full, we were told it was reservations only and no more reservations were being taken.
The bar area was not being cleaned when guests left the tables, the table we sat at in the lounge was very sticky.
Reception was manned however, the people were behind a wall/screen and there was no bell to attract their attention. This resulted in guests waiting for a considerable time to be seen.
The overall impression of the hotel is that the staff are overworked to the detriment of the guests.
San Sebastian is somewhere we enjoy visiting and intend to visit in the future. However, we would not stay at this hotel again due to the very poor service we received.

The Mercure San Sebastian Monte Igueldo is excellent place to stay in San Sebastian and enjoy the city. The location of the hotel is Unique and give's you a great view over the city. Going up and down take the funicular to walk alongside the beach to the city. In the evening the restaurant serves a tasty dinner in the grand dinner hall. Highly recommend !

Myself and my wife visited this hotel in August for a week. The hotel itself is quite nice and the views are fantastic. Just a tip it's probably best to get a second floor room or above as the dining room and breakfast room below extend quite far out, partially blocking the view from the first floor. The check in and out staff were very nice. The pool area is beautiful and the staff here were very good. And it was always quite relaxed at the pool getting sunbeds, towels, etc.
However the breakfast is terrible. Some of the staff were so rude it was quite funny. The coffee is from a machine which stutters and sometimes does not start at all. If you are anyway late for breakfast, say after 9, the selection of food declines rapidly. The bar staff in the evenings were quite nice but overworked and it was a fairly stressful experience getting served. Many guests come down to the bar for food and pre dinner drinks in the evening and you can see their initial relaxed faces turn increasingly angry.
Overall we did enjoy our stay though, because of the views, the pool area and San Sebastian itself.

We stayed for one night in May 2023. We had read mixed reviews and were not sure what the hotel would be like. It has a fantastic view. Our room looked out over the Bay and was spacious and clean. The funicular railway, which is within 2 minutes walk of the hotel and is only a few euros, takes you down to the promenade around the Bay of San Sebastian. It is a fairly long walk to the Old Town but very pleasant on a warm day as you get the sea breeze. Breakfast at the hotel was one of the best breakfasts we have ever had in a hotel. The breakfast room is large and has spectacular views of the city and the Bay. The breakfast was superb, very well presented, a huge variety of food and plenty of space so it never felt crowded at any of the buffet breakfast areas. We did not have lunch or dinner at the hotel but the menu and the dining room looked very inviting. We spent 2 further nights in a hotel in the Old Town which was really nice. I would definitely recommend the Mercure Monte Igueldo Hotel and look forward to returning to it. The next time we will spend 2 nights here so we can experience a meal in the dining room as well.

Great hotel with breathtaking views - day and night. Very satisfied with the accommodation - We booked rooms described as "Premium Privilege Room with Balcony and Sea and Bay View" and they were exactly as they were described - the views actually even better than anticipated. Breakfast was plentiful and the staff serving it very helpful

t's not a dislike but i would suggest the hotel could do a little more with it's terrace that has such spectacular views, offering more bar service & seating.

Three nights stay to celebrate my daughters 23rd birthday. I had one room and my daughters had their own room, both were lovely with sea views. The breakfast was excellent and they also provided gluten-free rolls for my daughter. It was the same breakfast menu every day, would have been nice to have something different. The evening reception were extremely helpful in booking the spa and taxis for us and assisting us to get our Covid tests before returning to the UK.
The only issue we had was that I had booked the restaurant for my daughters birthday meal with the receptionist in the morning but they had failed to make the booking for us so when we turned up for dinner they didn’t have a table for us…. 😡 This was very upsetting as it was a special evening. Eventually after over an hours wait in the bar we eventually had a table. No apologies or even the offer of a free drink. The pool area is outstanding. Lovely hotel but maybe need a few more staff as not very attentive service.

How long would the walk take to the centre or beach?
Answer from Kildress
Tyrone, N.Ireland1,847 contribution141 helpful votes
Probably 30/45 minutes to walk but the funicular railway would reduce that to 10 minutes plus any waiting time (the train runs constantly so little waiting unless there is a queue. Those figures are to the closest beach and section of town. The town and beaches are long so to walk to the harbour and aquarium would take a further 30 minutes.

If you walk towards centre along beach just before you get to the road tunnel there is a major junction. If you cross the road and head along the major street away from the beach you will find bar Pepe. It has very good reasonably priced food. If you walk along the little street to the side of the bar you will find a street with a number of grocery shops bars and restaurants. Hope this helps
