Every year for about 8yrs my family and I stay in Frankfurt for the Christmas Market and also my birthday since it's around that time. It has become our tradition. We used to stay at the IC Frankfurt since I used to be an RA but since it closed down a few years back we found HI Alte Oper. So far we have stayed here for the past few years and were always very happy with the service and location (make sure you turn right when leaving the hotel).
Location: Good, about 15-20mins walk to the Christmas Market.
Service: Great service especially the lady at the Check-In, Mona, she gave a very warm welcome and was genuinely happy. Though I am only a Gold now used to be higher it is still of value.
They have those Member of the Day and I was chosen and it was very nice extra service where I got to draw a voucher and got a free drink and a snack at the bar, very much appreciated.
Room: Big enough for the family and was very clean, with a nice view. It was nice that I was upgraded and the higher floor is always nice.
Bathroom: Was also clean, Kleenex was empty but got it replaced fast, it's nice that it is still available unlike some hotels.
Breakfast: Great food as always, kids love the breakfast area and always enjoy the food. One thing that surprised me was the Maple Syrup, since as a Canadian we value this for the Pancakes! And not just a cheap sugar syrup.
Staff: It was very nice and the cleaning lady that filled up the mini-bar was very nice and friendly and put in an extra apple juice because the kids loved it.
Overall it's a welcoming hotel and kids also feel welcome.
We will definitely be back here again in 2025, or fast as long as we can...

We were very happy with this hotel. It is located about a 10 minute walk from the main train station. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Valeska was especially kind. The breakfast buffet is incredible with dozens of choices including multiple meat products, a variety of cheeses, a selection of fruits, salmon, oatmeal, and several bread products. Plus too many other things to name. You can get many types of fresh brewed coffee drinks as well. They even have lactose free milk. The breakfast area is clean and comfortable. Two things I would mention-not as complaints but just to inform--some of the streets nearby are part of the red light district so if that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable just choose your route carefully. Also ice is not common in Germany so, you will have to ask for it at the bar if you want some in the room. All in all, we would definitely recommend it.

Dear K1187HBlisag, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Holiday Inn Frankfurt-Alte Oper. We are very pleased about your positive comments and really appreciate the high ranking. I will share your feedback with our staff member Valeska! The neighborhood around the train station is known to be lively, and while there can be some challenges, we strive to assist our guests as best as we can. Upon arrival, we already inform our guests at the reception that the train station area may be busy in some parts. We also provide city maps and detailed directions to recommend alternative routes away from these areas. Our staff is always available to provide you with helpful information and recommendations. We hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you in near future. Best regards Maria Höft Front Office Manager

Modern design hotel, with comfortable room and very large bathroom, especially the shower. In the bathroom we found shower gel dispensers and shampoo "Where", as well as for hand soap and a discreet hairdryer. The flaps were missing while the towels were replaced daily. Good level of cleanliness. As for breakfast it is mainly centered on salty but you can also find various jams and some cakes croissants so we say all in all good. Convenient enough large lobby, in our group there were several children and every night returning we used that space to let them play... I must say that they were always very kind and endured the mess without batting an eyelid. Some small mishap with a room that, however, although summarily tried to fix. As for the location, in 10 min walk you get downtown, I recommend it.

The hotel is very near to both Frankfurt main Rail station and as well as Messe Frankfurt arena. Though very near to station but the hotel is out of the dingy Red light district.
The room size is moderate with all the amenities and the bathrooms are also modern with showers ( not tubs). Beds are comfortable and quiet. They also allowed me early check in as a IHG member without costs.

The hotel is excellent. However, the staff is terribly impolite on the border of being rude and also unorganized and messy. I would give the stay 1 star, but hotel is really great and the location is very good. Hotel is located near the train station of Frankfurt, which is the worst area in town, but hotel is just on the edge of this area, so pretty safe, although if you are arricing into the train station of Frankfurt I suggest takiing a tram for one stop to avoid the bad area and then walk for 5 mins. Rooms are spacious and seem freshly renovated, nothing to complain about. Breakfast is awesome too - plenty of choices and very clean area. Now for the stuff. We have booked 2 rooms and my colleague enrolled into IHG rewards at check in, so they messed up the room details and assigned both rooms to her, so I could not log in into wifi and had to go down to resolve the issue. They confirmed they did but it still didnt work till next day and the attitude of the from desk stuff was horrible. Like doing me a favour. As diamond member, I have picked free breakfast as a perk for the stay. For the first 2 days they kept presenting me with a bill at the breakfast area and I had to discuss with the breakfast stuff and explain. Very annoying. They managed to fix it after 2 days. I wanted to use the public printer in the lobby, which is connected to a hotel computer nearby. Computer however didnt have an internet so I was not able to send the doc I wanted to print. Stuff again was very rude and basically treated me as an idiot. Horrible customer experience overall.

The location is great. The breakfast was poor and people came to breakfast in shorts and flip flops. The hotel now looks more like a medium-sized all-inclusive hotel in the south. Juice from a machine that tastes like water with a bad taste. Before it was fresh juice. Was told that there was too much waste. The selection of toppings is very modest. The hotel is now characterized by mass tourism from Asia and Eastern Europe. Price vs. quality is below average.

The hotel was modern and clean but is not suitable for families. The red light district starts at the next block just outside the front door and the drug use in the area is rampant. My son pointed out an empty syringe on the ground about half a block from the hotel’s front door and on a separate occasion my daughters watched a different guy getting high. We chose the hotel to be close to the Christmas markets but since it’s pretty close to the main train station, the entire area around the hotel is filled with interesting characters day and night.
As far as the hotel goes, it is probably good for business people who need to be in the area but once again, if you have a family, you should look elsewhere. I called the hotel weeks before my stay to confirm we could have 3 in a room (we have 5 so we typically book 2 rooms close together) and were told it would not be a problem and asked them to put notes on the reservation to confirm it. We are platinum level at IHG and do this all the time at IHG properties I n many countries, even at another hotel in Germany with no problems. When we checked in the girl at the front desk gave us a hard time even after we told her we specifically confirmed it prior. After a bit of back and forth, she confirmed we could do it but charged us an extra 20€ per night for the rollaway bed. I felt taken advantage of and should have cancelled the reservation at that point especially after the front desk attendant told me not to go left out of the hotel because “it’s not safe - even in the day.” They also charge 23.80€ per person for a continental breakfast and charge for high-speed internet (there is a free version that had intermittent connectivity issues), so if it’s on a corporate tab, you’ll be fine to stay here.
I did give them 3 stars because the room was typical for IHG properties. Towels were high quality, room decor was fine although the executive room wasn’t anything special. We stayed at an IHG property in Düsseldorf the day prior and that hotel set the bar high so for the value received, giving this property 3 stars is pretty generous. Next time we’ll book somewhere out of that area and if you have children with you, we’d recommend you do the same.

Dear FloridaNeil, First of all thank you for your loyalty as an IHG One Rewards Member. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience during check in. We strive to always deliver a high standard of service. But unfortunately there was a wrong information given from our central reservation department regarding the room and extra bed. We also got no information about the bedding situation, but the colleague at check in offered you an upgrade for free to the room where an extra bet fits in. The extra beds are not free of charge, you can find this information online too. But we also have taken appropriate measures already, to make sure that this is not happening again. High Speed Internet was free of charge usable for you as an IHG One Rewards Member. Our standard Wifi connection is free of charge available. The central location of our Hotel is convenient for most of our guests. In 10 minutes walking distance you can reach the main train station by using the main roads. Downtown is walkable in 10-15 minutes and in 5 minutes you reach the financial district. As my colleague already explained at check in the area next to the train station is not nice to walk. Best regards Maria Höft Front Office Manager

The Holiday Inn Alte Oper is conveniently located near the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly, helpful and spoke English fluently. We arrived for a late check in just as the restaurant kitchen closed. They graciously welcomed us into the restaurant and allowed us to order. The schnitzel and fried potatoes were very good. The room was clean and comfortable and we were able to control the temperature, unlike the hotel we stayed in Hamburg. We didnt eat breakfast at the hotel, but it appeared reasonably priced compared to some hotel breakfasts. (There is a small creperie next door that was very good. It is cash only and not open on the weekends thought). There was almost always a taxi available out front or nearby, but if not the reception would call one. The only negative has nothing to do with the staff or building itself. As other reviews have noted, the hotel is right on the edge of the "red light" district. If you take a left out of the front door, in less than a block the neighborhood becomes uncomfortable. You wont feel unsafe in the hotel itself, but hose with children should be aware of that direction.

Reception was very friendly and quick. We had to change the room on the 7th floor because it smelled strongly of drains. We also got another room on the 4th floor which was acceptable, unfortunately there was only one small bottle of water during the 3 day stay, and a convenience kit with hand cream, cotton buds etc. was missing. Should really be standard in a 4* hotel. The room was clean. Breakfast was OK with scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, yoghurt, cheese... and a selection of coffee from the machine. The usual hotel breakfast. Location is actually good if you ignore the junkies hanging around in the forecourt. You can actually only go into town via Mainzer Landstrasse because the path (left of the hotel) leads through Elbestrasse, which smells of urine and is besieged by junkies.

The service all around was exceptional. The restaurant, bar and front desk were all incredibly friendly and went out of their way many times to be more accommodating and helpful than expected. The front desk assisted with connecting to restaurants for our group and made the over all stay especially easy and enjoyable. Samara and Thilo were so pleasant up front as were the others I spoke to during my stay.
In the bar/restaurant, Ivan and Noah in particular, brought so much joy to the atmosphere and created an incredibly welcoming environment for those of us visiting and enjoying after dinner drinks. Greta also served me other nights and was a kind, friendly server. Well done on creating a pleasant stay for international guests.

Dear Edi,
the hotel is between the Bahnhofsviertel and the bank district, from where you can safely walk to all main attraction in Frankfurt. We are a 7 min walk from the Central station through the Karlstrasse and a 10min walk to the shopping mile Zeil.
If you have any further questions please don't hestiate to conact us.
Best regards

I was able to park on the street by the hotel, but it is only easy with a small to mid-size car. The hotel staff can certainly help you. Larger vehicle are problematic in European cities though.
It's an easy 15 minute walk from the main railway station. Sorry unsure where the Christmas Market is.. Hotel is great and good value. Although breakfast is a little expensive
"It's no secret this is next or the Red Light District but for as long as you stay away from that side, it's almost day &night difference from the left side to the right side."
There are more places to choose from in the Frankfurt area.
