The Hotel de Rome is surely a good and luxurious hotel. It is well located near Französischer Platz and thus in the middle of Berlin's Mitte. What I miss is the soul of this hotel, it is somewhat heartless to me (e.g. In comparison to the nearby Ritz).

This hotel was the first hotel I stayed in during a long trip throughout Europe. I couldnt have had a better place to start; the hotel breakfast was tremendous. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The hotel gym was sufficient, but was not as comprehensive as I had hoped for a five-star property. That is my only real complaint....

Fantastic hotel great location and staff couldn't be more helpful. I especially think the hotel staff went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. The spa was great too a great place to relax and wind down when you are doing sight seeing !

Impeccable frontdesk and concierge services. Terrible experincz with breakfast; certainly can do much better to match sistet properties ie Amigo, Brown, Hotel de Russie, etc. Great location and definitely worth trying. One must remember however that hospitality is a tradition and as every tradition it takes time to reach the subtle balance that make the grandest hotels in the world....

This hotel is the Brown's equivalent in Berlin. Easy to reach from Friedrichstrasse with an impeccable service. The hotel staff are formal and friendly. The rooms and service are what one would expect from this hotel. This is the place to stay in Berlin

We visited this wonderful hotel for a long weekend, having already stayed in Berlin before at the Adlon Kempinski Hotel. We had, in all honesty, wanted to return to the Adlon again, but it wasn't available. As it turns out, I'm so pleased that we chose the Hotel de Rome instead. The overwhelming factor that made our stay truly memorable...

This hotel is walking distance to many of Berlin´s attractions. The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast buffet was pretty good as well. We had dinner at the hotel´s restaurant "La Banca" and the service was slow and it was too expensive for what we ate. Other than that, I do recommend staying here!

Just finished my 6th stay De Rome. Location is unbeatable. Property and building is spectacular, the building was originally the headquarters of "Dresden Bank" Built sometime in the last half of the 19th century. The renovations done when converting to hotel some 10 years ago has really paid homage to the splendor and greatness of the building. The pool is...

Very German. High on efficiency. Not so high on charm. Rooms generous in size but my bedroom suite faced an office block so my drapes had to always be closed. The hotel is decorated in black and ddifferent shades of gray, so it all appears rather dreary inside.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels. ... more   less
