I felt like I was staying in a completely different place to everyone else who has reviewed this hotel. So much so, I repeatedly checked the address of this hotel against everyone’s reviews. Alas, I was staying at the right place, but my experience was far from excellent. This is a well-located no frills hotel best used as a base...

Stayed there in August 2007. As a good value, clean, well-located base for a trip to Berlin this hotel is hard to beat. 2 U-Bahn stations within 300m, 15 minutes stroll to Potsdamer Platz, friendly, helpful staff. If you want luxury go somewhere else but on a price / performance basis (particularly with an advance booking) this hotel represents an...

We stayed at the Express Inn Berlin, between 4th-8th of December 2006. The reason for our visit was to explore Berlins Christmas Markets. We arrived at Berlin Schonefield Airport around 10am on the Monday 4th December. We decided to make our own way to Berlin from the airport via the train system, this is well signposted from the Airport. At the...

My friend and I stayed in Room 655 on the first of ten nights in Europe. We were very tired after several flight delays and arrived at about 8 pm. The two at the check-in desk were very friendly and professional. The young man recommended a real German restaurant down the street and to the right, but when we visited...

Arrived back from a 2 day stay in Berlin. The room (for 4) was comfortable for my wife and 2 children. Very clean. Front Desk was overall very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious with an excellent variety and a great value as I also visited Prague, Oswiecim (Auschwitz) ,Munich, and Paris. With the exception of the Tulip Inn...

Great location to Anhalter Bahn subway stop (1/4 mile) and Potsdamer Platz (3/4 mile). Nice walk to Checkpoint Charlie and plenty of restaurants around. Staff very helpful and the breakfast was great. Room typical smallish European, but we didn't go to Berlin to stay in the hotel! Highly recommend, and take the subway--it's easy and quick.

Basic value for money hotel. Room small but adequate. Front desk staff reasonably helpful but they seem overworked. More businesslike than friendly. Breakfast choice adequate but dining room was small relative to the number of guests. Only quibble was the lifts - often quite full and could be a long wait. It is a 10 min walk to Potzdammer Platz...

Most has already been said, but this really is a good clean modern hotel in a great location at a great price. Plenty of choice at breakfast and great service from staff. Ate at the Argentinian/Mexican Steakhaus twice and the tapas was to die for. Little extras such as kettle in room, left luggage facilities and free internet all great.

Had stayed in other Holiday Inn Expresses around the world so this was a safe choice on a business trip. The 2-way closing door in the bathroom is a cool trick which was also there in the Hong Kong edition of this hotel. Most of what needs to be said has already been said - wide breakfast choice (although after...

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
