Excellent location and comfortable room (4 bed mixed dorm). Ensuite was clean and convenient. The bar had a great atmosphere for meeting fellow travellers. Only took off a rating point as the Wifi did not reach the room. Would stay here again.

5 of us stayed at heart of gold hostel over NYE and we were all impressed. The location is the key to this hostel as it is in walking distance to plenty of attractions and public transport. Staff were attentive and helpful, large common areas and felt clean. Bar downstairs is great too which easily sucks you into spending the...

I stayed in another hostel at first, way more expensive and Hert of Gold was better in every way. I booked for the 42 bed dorms but the dormitory is actually divided and I stayed in a 11 beds room. The room is huge, really quiet and isolated, you have plenty of spaces, it is clean. You can borrow towels....

Stayed here with a group of 6 girls on New Year Eve. Had a fabulous time! Spacious, clean room with heated floors and best showers of any hostel I've stayed at. A great communal space with pool table and cheap drinks. The staff were friendly and accommodating, check-in and check-out open 24 hours which was ideal for our late and...

We went to Berlin with 3 people and had a really nice room with 3 bunk beds in it. The room was clean and had a nice looker for your personal stuff. The hostel was very central and 200m away from a S-Bahn station and easy to find. The downstairs bar was really cool and quite cheap, a pool table...

Heart of Gold is a no frills hostel - well located, clean rooms and common areas and with helpful staff. WIFI is good, there's free coffee!! and a pool table. Recommended if you're on a tight budget. I stayed with my two teenage sons in a private room.

To give you more insight into our stay, I was travelling in a group of 6. The room was quite spacious and it was 3 bunk beds, we were all pretty happy with. The room was clean and tidy, Sheets/pillow/duvet provided. The bar was very cheap, had a good atmosphere where all the guests could hang out. The staff were...

I only stayed here for one night, but it was enough to get a nice impression. In short: great location, friendly staff, warm, comfy bed, hot shower, very clean, safe keeping of luggage, free wifi, cheap. I will keep this place in mind for whenever I am travelling to Berlin again. 10/10

The location is really amazing - safe area close to the museum island and the bars in Mitte. The reception works 24h which is really convenient (I arrived pretty late), people have drinks at the bar. It can get a bit noisy but that wasn't a problem for me. I stayed at a double room so I have no experience...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
