Booked on strength of reviews on TA. Room & beds very small but clean. Remainder of hotel looked shabby & not very appealing on arrival as front area of hotel is now a takeaway. Free WI Fi which worked well was a bonus. Real plus for this hotel is location. Close to tram as well as underground & main line...

Well located for a short city break (we had four nights) with underground and trams on the doorstep, bars and restaurants nearby. Rooms are functional with comfortable beds and a good shower. We were offered a choice of two rooms, and our double had a table with a couple of chairs. The room and en suite were clean. There was...

I had been dying to go to Berlin for ages but was travelling on a budget. I've never been an ambassador to hostels. I'm sure there are plenty of hidden treasures, but they're just not for me. Markischer Hof hotel brought the best of both worlds together: decent rooms, comfy beds, practical bathrooms, toothsome breakfast and free wifi, at nearly...

Room was small but clean. Breakfast was OK. There was a free parking place in the backyard and a free wifi in the room. The big disadvantage was that staff hardly speak english. And one has to pay in cash.

We stayed at this hotel for a 5 night sightseeing break - our first in Berlin. First impressions were not good; we were on the third floor and there is no lift so check with the manager before booking if stairs are a problem. The rooms were very basic, certainly not like the one pictured on the website, very small...

The location was fantastic--with little cafes all around and the train station just across the street. Very centrally-located. The price was fantastic and much better than other hotels in the area. But what really made our stay great was the VERY friendly and helpful Ukrainian receptionist. She doesn't speak much English and I don't speak a word of German but...

The hotel is close to a S-bahn and an U-bahn stations - very well connected and in addition the quarter is a very lively place. The ambulance cafe across the street provides free wifi and excellent food & hot drinks, and there are many nice food places nearby. Now back to the hotel - the staff is polite and helpful...

This hotel would probably have been ideal for our needs, as it's affordable and well-situated. What determined us against staying there was the unprofessional and frankly rude behaviour of the Russian receptionist.

We stayed here for 5 nights in the winter that is Berlin! The staff speak little English but are friendly none the less. It's an older hotel however it's neat and clean and there's plenty of room to spread out in the rooms. No internet however we could reach the internet from the care across the road (Espresso Ambulance) go...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
