I normally stay at the Park Inn, but a colleague was already booked into the Westin so I joined him. The hotel is very fancy, with a lovely cupola going up about 6 or seven floors. Room was comfortable, the shower was good, although it wasn't that large. I hadn't remembered to print my voucher for the room, and the... More

I had a studio suite for five nights this month at this hotel. Positives: Clean room (this should be a given, but I need more positives for this list...) Comfy bed Great location in Mitte, center, of Berlin, in what was east Berlin. Ten minute walk to Brandenburg Gate, two U-Bahn stops without minutes, etc. Negatives: Shower poor - looks... More

We enjoyed a five night stay at the Westin in mid-October. The location is ideal for seeing the city. The lobby bar/restaurant is a great place to unwind at the end of a long day of walking. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. The business centre was a little less than expected for a large, business oriented hotel and having... More

I have always wanted to stay in this hotel and have to say that it is more of a conference/event style hotel than I had expected. That said, I cannot fault the extensive breakfast selection that will keep you going all day. Good hotel lobby bar - the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The swimming pool and... Booked as part of a flight/hotel deal and was a little put off by some recent reviews but needn't have been worried. Easy to find even amidst the chaos of the U6 construction work. Arrived around mid day and was offered an immediate twin or else if we could come back later a double on the quiet side of Hotel.... More

Stayed for three nights, this past week. The immediate surroundings of this hotel are great. Galleries Lafayette just diagonally across the street as are many international labels. The hotel itself is old and rooms were most recently renovated in 2008. As a platinum SPG member we were upgraded to a junior suite. Which is just a larger room. The bathroom... More

We only spent a couple of nights here but the time we did spend there was really good. The beds were soft, the minibar was decently priced and the curried sausage was amazing! We chose the Westin as SPG members and had a very good experience (actually much better than expected given some of the recent reviews). Firstly location was very good. Located in former east Berlin and easy walk to Gendarmenmarkt, Checkpoint Charlie, Museum island, Brandenburg gates, etc. The immediate surrounds at this end of Friedrichstrasse are mainly higher end shops and... Checked out this morning after 5 nights in a Junior Suite and 100% agree with the most recent couple of posts here. Expected more from a Westin property. Cavernous and quite dim central lounge and dining area around which the rooms are tiered; felt a little depressing. Small bathroom and surprisingly no bath - very disappointing for a Junior Suite.... Good location, but not exactly luxurious. A basic Westin. You are nearby some major tourist sites, but other nearby hotels are far superior. It's like a giant cavern inside. Big staircase, but not grand in the Euro sense. Bathrooms are tiny and the shower is funky...hard to use and figure out. They tried to over-engineer. Would not repeat.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
