We had a wonderful stay at Schloss Steinburg. It was a revelation to come up a deserted lane from the city and find ourselves on top of a hill overlooking Wurzburg and with a combination modern hotel attached to a castle like building. It was welcoming and lovely with some medieval suits of armor scattered here and there and old elegant furnishings in part of the lobby and restaurant. We stayed in a beautiful room in the old section with views over the city on both sides. We had very comfortable and immaculate accommodations. The hotel was very conscious of coronavirus precautions and required guests to have N-95 masks and to wear a special glove at the buffet service for breakfast. The staff was welcoming and efficient. Our stay could not have been better. After our delicious breakfast, we walked on the hill next to the vineyards where there are spectacular views of the city below. We would love to return.

This hotel gave me a bit of a rude wake up call at breakfast. I only stayed one night. In the morning the place was full of guests but slightly understaffed. After a longish wait We helped ourselves to the buffet breakfast. And just as I was having my first sip of coffee a waiter appeared. What a relief. He comes over and rudely asks me to move. Move to this other table, just 2 meters away. He says the table I was sitting at is reserved for a birthday party. But there was no reservation sign. Naturally I refused but he insisted to the point that my colleague moved and I had to follow. Wait. It gets better. 10 minutes later he comes back and tells us that we can move back to the original table. His supervisor comes and insists that all procedures were followed. No apology from them obviously. Memorable visit. But the view of the town is lovely. Enjoy your stay.

Dear guest, Thank you for your kind feedback. As our hotel is an apprenticing company, maybe you were served by a trainee having started their apprenticeship a few weeks ago. But of course, we apologize for the described situation and will train our staff to be more empathic. Hoping that you enjoyed all the other impressions of your stay, we would be pleased to welcome you soon again. With best regards from Würzburg Schlosshotel Steinburg

Very nice modern rooms. Extremely well designed rooms with magnificent views. The breakfast was also very well done. One small complaint. We had 2 rooms with 4 people and were trying to get a quick cocktail or glass of wine before heading into town for dinner. Many tables with views were available but reserved for future guests. We explained we were guests of the hotel and would be finished in 30 minutes. They still refused to give us one of those tables. We had drink at one with a limited view and saw there were still many open seats available. It would have been easy to say yes to our initial request. We would have been happy to move if another guest arrived. This small act of kindness and hospitality was never considered. Maybe next time.

Dear guest, thank you very much for your overall positive rating! How nice that you felt comfortable in your room and that you are enthusiastic about our breakfast buffet. We're sorry you didn't get a table with a direct view of the city. Unfortunately, we have often had the experience that guests end up staying longer than half an hour. Due to the Corona hygiene guidelines, we need more time to change tables and are therefore a little less flexible. It is a pity that you are not entirely satisfied with our price-performance ratio. We have a clear philosophy you can find at our website. We look forward to welcoming you again soon and wish you all the best until then! With best regards Schlosshotel Steinburg

Avoid this place unless you are a wedding guest, conference attendee or just visiting for a drink is my honest opinion, when you book this hotel, with the price you pay (200+ euro per night), you expect a high end establishment with a high customer service, this is most definitely not the case. Firstly, the hotel is remote at the top of a hill (no issue here and as expected), however, if you haven’t reserved a table you can not eat here, no alternatives are available for guests apart from the city of Wurzburg (many km away), there was a complete lack of understanding on this issue from the staff with the only alternative to go elsewhere. I would say that most people would book this hotel for the view above the valley and the city, you are paying a premium for this as a guest, however please be aware that as a guest you play second citizen to people walking in from the street and cannot actually sit anywhere with a view, despite telling the staff you are a guest, they were unsympathetic. We stayed two nights here and on both evenings could not enjoy the view, so we sat on the roadway outside the hotel. Covid is not an excuse for poor service, when checking into this hotel, they ask for vaccination proof and PCR test proof, then cattle you into a 20m space with 30 other people when they have around 200m of prime valley fronting space available for guests to relax in comfort, instead you are given no reason for pushing everyone into a corner, other than ‘covid rules’, despite opening the areas up for wedding guests on a following evening, this is extremely poor guest relations and extremely poor covid precautions. I personally witnessed people walk in from the street and sit down to drink etc with no proof of covid tests or vaccination, yet this is demanded from paying guests. Overall I was disappointed in this hotel but purely for the price you pay in relation to the service offered, if prices were reduced considerably to say 80-100 euro per night then, this is the service level you’d receive here.

Dear guest Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, there were a few misunderstandings, which we honestly regret. Concerning the covid requirements of BAVARIA, only hotel guests must proof their vaccination or test status, but not guests who only visit the restaurant. Maybe, this standard does not sound plausible, but please note these are not our hotel rules. We only have to control them hoping that we will not be closed anymore again. Our restaurant is very popular, also with local people, so we recommend our hotel guests to reserve a table in advance. If not, we cannot guarantee any table for dinner. We communicate this point on our website, within the reservation confirmation (in red letters) as well as within our pre-stay emails, which the guests receive 2-3 days in advance of their arrival date. We do not understand exactly, what you are meaning with "then cattle you into a 20m space with 30 other people". Yes, we have the covid rule to put 1,50 m space between the guests' tables. However, if you are with a private event (for example a wedding), this requirement does not exist. In these cases, you have the "maximum 100 people outside and 50 people inside"-rule. If it happened that one evening, one of our four terraces was closed, this wasn't due to covid, but due to too few employees. We will not open all of our terraces, if we cannot guarantee a 4*-hotel standard. Thank you for your understanding these points. Please be assured, that we are always interested in seeing our guests happy! But we also have to enforce the government's regulations as well as to consider economic reasons. Dear guest, we would be pleased to welcome you soon again and remain with best regards from Würzburg Schlosshotel Steinburg

The hotel is exceptionally located. We stayed in the new brilliantly designed wing and our double room was spacious, bright and had wonderful views over the river and town. Fitted out with a day couch spanning the length of the window it was a great space to spend time in. The service we received was mixed: check-in service was very poor: the hostess was hostile to say the least. Further, the bed for our daughter was not installed, nor were there any towels etc provided for her. It took 3 attempts to get the room equipped for her. However on the day of departure we had to leave very early, before the breakfast room opened. The staff took the initiative and prepared brunch packs for each of us. That gesture was extremely well appreciated.
