'Of all the hostel-hotels popping up in Munich this pert little number does the best job in combining style with location. Past the glassed-in courtyard you'll find a friendly expat staff, pleasant if modular furnishings and private showers and toilets in every room.' (Lonely Planet) Welcome to our comfortable baby in Munich! We're just a stone's throw from the main train station which also serves as the major public transportation hub. It’s not much further to the old town (5 minute stroll or 2 stone throws) and we're within easy walking distance of the Oktoberfest grounds (if you still CAN walk…better don’t throw stones). We have amply dimensioned dormitories and most doubles come with their own terrace. We're especially proud of our air-conditioned, glass-roofed courtyard with real trees, real hammocks, semi-real (Beware of the wormholes!) beach chairs and beanbags. If you travel by car, you can park it in our basement.

Great typically Hostel and great for Oktoberfest and Christmas markets. Beer is great and the bar becomes a beer hall at night. Each bed also has a locker with an electric lock, 2 minutes walk from Hauptbahnhof.

My friends and I stayed in this hostel across a dorm room and two twin rooms. With it being a hostel i did not have high expectations but the Wombat surpassed itself.
I was very impressed, from the friendly and helpful staff, to the rooms, which were simple but clean and comfortable.
The location was very close to the train station which was very helpful, and we were in walking distance of a lot of the activities we did.
The bar was a lovely place for a couple of drinks (note the happy hour!) and the other communal area was a lovely space to relax in.
I also felt very safe here, with there being two key card controlled locked doors before you get to your room door.
Overall would highly recommend for a stay in Munich

This place is one of those modern hostels that feel like you should've paid more.

We were in an 8bed female dorm, which was spacey and had its own bathroom. Some might say that bathroom was better than their own at home. Sadly we couldn't open the windows which meant little fresh air, and the beds were quite HARD to get comfy on but that's not so bad since we were dead tired and weren't planning on hanging out in the dorm for long. Another neat thing is you can lock your stuff away in a locker with your key card. No need to bring a lock or anything. Wow right?

Breakfast was GREAT, they cater to vegans and offer international dishes. The atmosphere was vry relaxed. They also have a bar with cheap beer AND they give you a free towel??
The overall look is vry modern and the lounge makes u wanna hang out for a little longer.

The staff were lovely and the location superb however, this establishment has a few key problems as a hostel.

Our first disappointment was the booking of the trip. The website advertises how you won’t go hungry with their amazing breakfast yet when you arrived it’s actually an additional charge and turns out to be simply one of the most basic continental options I’ve seen. Cereal, bread, one ham, one cheese.

Once we arrived making the beds we found the pillow coverers are the wrong size and shape for every pillow. This mean you slept with your face on half the old, likely well used raw pillow which is disgusting.

The place was clean enough but it wasn’t amazing. We witnessed the clearers coming into the room. They did a quick sweep of the floor and wiped the sink but didn’t even attempt to wipe the communal table in the room that’s been covered in ketchup since we arrived. The showers were old and often didn’t work fully or had no pressure at all.

Thermometers I’m our room recorded temperatures of over 23*c - far too hot for a bed room. Their solution is to put 5 fans into the room running constantly and it’s needed - trust me. Then you feel like you’re sleeping on a helicopter landing pad all night. The one window opens minimally into the biggest and nosiest room in the hostel - not outside.

Our biggest problem was the noise. After checking in late having had a 15 hour day of travelling, all we really wanted to do was go to bed. Yet the hostel bar on the ground floor had music thumping that loud that water in a glass would shake. Security came into our room at 11 and told us to turn our phone off with Netflix playing on because it’s now quite time, while you could hardly hear him for the noise of the bar music. Reception were informed 3 times about this issue and nothing changed.

We understand we’re staying in a hostel, it’s a cheap and social place for young people but it’s key function is sleep. Many book a hostel to see the city on a budget, not stay inside. It felt like we were sleeping in a nightclub, definitely not what we had paid for. They should at least respect a quiet period, of say after 12am however the music just kept thumbing until well into the morning. I had to go and buy earplugs that were of little use. We ended up moving to another hostel. Even just turning the bass down would have significantly reduced the issue.

Booked a cheap flight to be able to catch Oktoberfest 2022 on a whim. Most hotels were (understandably) booked up or outrageously expensive in the time range. Wombat's was fairly cheap, was clean, provided great walkable city access, was right next to Oktoberfest, and was all in all great. I got in at 6am after a red eye before I was able to check-in, and they even let me shut my eyes on the couch for a few hours before I got to the evening festivities. Great bar too. was great, especially for the price!

Stayed here for 2 nights. Bar downstairs was good but is the only good thing about this place. Rooms are unbearably hot even with the window open and the half broken fan they supply on. We ended up catching an earlier train out of munich as we could not stand the heat in the room.

Also alot of creepy men hanging about, at one point there were standing at the their windows which face into the courtyard so everyone can see, naked and shouting the get females attention.

Vending machines also only take cash which I thought was poor considering they have guests from all over the world coming.

You can book something nicer in Munich that does not resemble an oven.

Lovely place, great atmosphere! Loved it here and will return! They had live music on in the evenings, the beer was cheap and the staff were so helpful in recommending local places to see, even helping with my German!

We stayed in a private room at Wombats for 2 nights. The staff were all very nice, the atrium was beautiful, bar/lounge was cheap and fun, breakfast was good, and it seemed like they put on some cool activities. Our bed was comfortable and the balcony was very nice. The room is very small though and the bathroom had a serious mildew odor. Also, the location could be better. Not close enough to the old city for our liking, and on a street with lots of strip clubs. Overall a very good value in Munich.

I booked this hostel last minute, and I've never stayed in a hostel before, so I can't really compare it to other places. Despite reading reviews on Hostelworld about the single rooms being hot, I have no complaints about the room.

I stayed in Munich when the temperature had a low of 20 Celcius and a high of 30. I had no issues with the room. I did have a large fan on in the room, which kept it cool. My room also had its own balcony and I sat outside to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Perfect for those who love their own space or couple.

My only gripe was that the WiFi was slow at times, so I couldn't even search the website to test internet speed. I had a data roaming plan, so this wasn't that big of an issue. I would stay here again if I'm back in Munich. A Lidl at the end of the street and the Train station is a 2-minute walk away. It couldn't get better.

All in all it’s a good hostel. Common area is large and pretty, service is good. Though, shared toilets on the first floor are not that clean. I stayed in 6 person mixed dorm, which was okey, but the shower is really uncomfortable and very small. Price wise the hostel is expensive compared to the other hostels I have stayed, which offered better services. But I guess this is the problem of Munich as an expensive city and not this hostel in particular. All in all, recommended!

Is this a party hostel? Thank you!

In my opinion it is a party hostel...the canteen is transformed into a students bar after 6pm and the place is bustling with people and music. Great music, you get a complimentary beer and are welcome to buy more at affordable prices. The best thing is that its a great way to start off your trip in a new and unknown city. You can make some great friends with fellow travellers from across the globe over a beer and share experiences...its a good way to get real info about the happening spots in the city and then strike out on your own. Hope that helps !
